This year Gabriel requested that we study World War II. Because we are lacking some basic resources like a library and a bookstore, I went online to do some research. I decided to begin our study with an overview of World War I and made a “scavenger hunt” type questionnaire for Gabe and Hannah. I also gave them the websites that they were allowed to go to and find the answers.
Questionnaire:
What event sparked the war?
Which countries were the allied countries?
Which countries were the central powers?
Which countries were neutral?
What were German Zeppelins?
Draw a picture of a Zeppelin on a separate piece of paper.
Who was Manfred von Richthofen?
How and when did he die?
How many allied aircraft did the Red Baron shoot down?
When did
Who was president of the
Who was
What does armistice mean?
When did the war end?
What are some other names for World War I?
Websites:
Eye Witness to History - World War I
Encyclopaedia of theFirst World War
When they finished their questions they made four notebook pages each, choosing any of the questions above. They spent several days on this project. It has been one of my favorite lessons because both of the kids really seemed to enjoy working on it. All three of us learned a lot! Here are some examples of their work:
