New Year's Challenge
New Year’s resolutions are usually broken faster than they are made. With that thought in mind, I hesitate to say that I am making a resolution. I will call it a challenge. It is a challenge for me but others are welcome to join in. There is no prize or reward other than a pat on the back and hopefully better health.
I am addicted to Coke – the legal kind. Coca-cola, Pepsi or even Sam’s Cola works just fine for me. I do not do diet or caffeine free. I like the real stuff, cold over lots of ice. Caffeine doesn’t keep me awake at night but in recent months I have noticed aching muscles. My theory is that the caffeine is making me tense. My challenge to myself is to see how many days I can go without any Coke, Pepsi, etc. Have you made a New Year’s resolution?

But I haven't had any Coke this year. LOL! And for me it HAS to be Coke. The others don't tempt me at all.
Check out my goals for 2007 on my blog. Look at # 2.
Good luck!

I recently have given up drinking soda - unless I'm out and there is not alternative - but there is usually water. However, it wasn't a huge "addiction" for me. I will pray that it goes well.
This year, I want to learn to live life to the fullest, in passionate intimacy with the Lord. I have let too many days go by where it has been second place - and I have made a commitment for my family and myself that this will be the only thing. Any other conviction to change hinges here anyway!

I gave up coffee and I have to admit I have gone to tea but it is better and I have stayed off of coffee and I want to support you in this with prayer my dear friend. I have a resolution to be much more consistant in my prayer time. I have slacked off and it is amazing how God has been prompting me threw songs, verses, sermons and thoughts to pray. I want to obey my Lord and thank you for challanging us and encouraging us to share what we would like to change in 2007.
God Bless my SSiC !
HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!
In Him,
-Mary

I have already given up drinking any soda for the most part. Occasionally I will have some. The problem is if I even have one glass, can, or bottle of soda I crave another the next day and then the next day and so on. I think it is the combo of sugar and caffeine. No diet for me either, hate the taste and I don't want the chemicals in it.
What I need to do is cut out the ice tea I drink all day, no sugar though. It makes me not want to drink enough water. When I was in Poland I drank much more water and no ice tea. I only had hot tea in the am and none later until I finally knew I could order it for free at all the restaurants we went to. I survived then so I know I can do it but those years in the south got me hooked on ice tea year round. Blessings on your daily walk without Cokes.

good luck with your resolution!
My goal this year is to ensure my children remember me as a smiling mother and not a screaming witch! ;-)

Like you I avoid resolutions because they're generally doomed to failure. Usually the goals are far too extreme and at this time of year it's easy to try and make too many changes at once.
I'm resolved not to make a resolution, but simply to continue on the path along which God is currently taking me. Perseverance is under-rated. It is my desire to deepen my relationship with God, and I anticipate that as a consequence that other flawed areas of my life will begin to take on a new shape.
Praying for you as you face your challenge! I have a similar problem with coffee - and yes, I've read that aching muscles (which I also experience, especially in my legs) are made worse by caffeine. Blessings for 2007!

I was once addicted to Pepsi also. I used to consume mass quantities of it. What I found to be the easiest way to give it up though, was not to see how many days I could go without it (equaling deprivation), but rather to reward myself with it on certain occasions.
I rarely drink soft drinks these days, but I will have a nice cold Pepsi or Coke with certain foods: popcorn, pizza, and Mexican food, and will drink some whenever we celebrate birthdays, usually.
You can do it, Karen!

Thanks for stopping by my blog. From one "legal" Coke addict to another, let me wish you the best of luck. It just does not do for me to run out of Coke, Diet Pepsi, any generic soda as long as it is caffeinated and brown! I do not care for Diet Coke or Sprite though. I love to get ice, especially that little square kind, rinse if off in cold water, and then pour my Coke over it. My husband thinks I am so weird doing that, but I think it tastes better and doesn't fizz up and then lose it's fizz too quick.
I hope you have a safe trip back!
