Uses for Peroxide
I received this in an email quite sometime ago. I haven't tried any of these ideas but I wanted to clean out my email box and have an organized place to store this info! Let me know if you've tried any of these ideas.
3% Peroxide
"I would like to tell you of the benefits of that plain little old bottle of 3% peroxide you can get for under $1.00 at any drug store. My husband has been in the medical field for over 36 years, and most doctors don't tell you about peroxide, or they would lose thousands of dollars."
1. Take one capful (the little white cap that comes with the bottle) and hold in your mouth for 10 minutes daily, then spit it out. (I do it when I bathe)
No more canker sores and your teeth will be whiter without expensive pastes. Use it instead of mouthwash. (Small print s ays mouth wash and gargle right on the bottle)
2. Let your toothbrushes soak in a cup of "Peroxide" to keep them free of germs.
3. Clean your counters, table tops with peroxide to kill germs and leave a fresh smell. Simply put a little on your dishrag when you wipe, or spray it on the counters.
4. After rinsing off your wooden cutting board, pour peroxide on it to kill salmonella and other bacteria.
5. I had fungus on my feet for years - until I sprayed a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water on them (especially the toes) every night and let dry.
6. Soak any infections or cuts in 3% peroxide for five to ten minutes several times a day. My husband has seen gangrene that would not heal with any medicine, but was healed by soaking in peroxide.
7. Fill a spray bottle with a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water and keep it in every bathroom to disinfect without harming your septic system like bleach or most other disinfectants will.
8. Tilt your head back and spray into nostrils with your 50/50 mixture whenever you have a cold, or plugged sinuses. It will bubble and help to kill the bacteria. Hold for a few minutes then blow your nose into a tissue.
9. If you have a terrible toothache and cannot get to a dentist right away, put a capful of 3% peroxide into your mouth and hold it for ten minutes several times a day. The pain will lessen greatly.
10. And of course, if you like a natural look to your hair, spray the 50/50 solution on your wet hair after a shower and comb it through. You will not have the peroxide burnt blonde hair like the hair dye packages, but more natural highlights if your hair is a light brown, reddish, or dirty blonde. It also lightens gradually so it's not a drastic change.
11. Put half a bottle of peroxide in your bath to help rid boils, fungus, or other skin infections.
12. You can also add a cup of peroxide instead of bleach to a load of whites in your laundry to whiten them. If there is blood on clothing, pour directly on the soiled spot. Let it sit for a minute, then rub it and rinse with cold water. Repeat if necessary.
13. I use peroxide to clean my mirrors with, and there is no smearing which is why I love it so much for this.
I could go on and on. It is a little brown bottle no home should be without! With prices of most necessities rising, I'm glad there's a way to save tons of money in such a simple, healthy manner.

A Contest I Need to Win!!
JenIg is having a fantastic contest that I would love to, need to win. I've won two things recently. Maybe I am on a roll. . .
Rosetta Stone has been the #1 foreign language curriculum among homeschoolers for a while -- next week they are unleashing a brand new curriculum, and you can WIN the *all new* Rosetta Stone Homeschool Version 3… FOR FREE!
This is a $219 program (and believe me it's worth every penny!) and the winner gets to pick from any of these 14 languages: Spanish (Spain or Latin America), English (American or British), Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Irish, Hebrew, or Russian.
This will also include a headset with microphone, and students will participate in lifelike conversations and actually produce language to advance through the program. Rosetta Stone still incorporates listening, reading and writing as well, in addition to speaking. Many homeschoolers requested grammar and vocabulary exercises, and with Rosetta Stone Homeschool Version 3, they're included! For parents, the new Parent Administrative Tools are integrated into the program and allow parents to easily enroll students in any of 12 predetermined lesson plans, monitor student progress, and view and print reports.
To win this most excellent program -- in the language of your choice -- copy these (blue) paragraphs and post it in (or as) your next blog post -- then to enter the contest, go to the original contest page HERE: http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/JenIG/501132/ and leave a comment with the link showing where you blogged about it. And please make sure the link works to get back to the original contest page when you post it. And good luck! The winner will be picked randomly on March 26, and will be notified thru the link they left to their blog pg. And if you have more than one blog, you can post them and enter those separately for more chances to win. Yay for free stuff!

RICE-STUFFED CHICKEN
This is a recipe my mom made when I was growing up. I was quite a picky eater and I probably did not like it but I am looking forward to making this next week. Thanks for the recipe mom!
RICE-STUFFED CHICKEN
½ cup chopped celery ½
cup chopped onion
½ cup chopped green pepper 2
Tbsp margarine or butter
1 ½ cups cooked or leftover rice 1 10 oz can tomatoes, cut up
½ tsp rubbed sage 2
3-lb roasting chickens
Cooking
oil
In skillet cook first 3 ingredients in margarine till
tender; remove vegetables from
skillet. Combine celery mixture, rice,
tomatoes, ¾ tsp salt, sage, and 1/8 tsp pepper.
Loosely stuff body and neck cavities of chickens. Place birds, breast up, on rack in shallow
roasting pan. Rub skin generously with
oil. Roast uncovered at 375 degrees F
for 1 ½ to 2 hours. Brush occasionally
with pan drippings. Makes 8 servings.
Note: I use 2 fryers
instead of roasting chickens. They are more tender and moister. . Also, I use more rice and vegetables than
is called for. I stuff the chickens, put
them in the baking dish, and put the rest of the rice around the chickens. The drippings flavor the rice really
well. If you need to baste the chicken
during baking, just use some oil.
I hope you enjoy this too! Please come visit me at my regular blog, Wired Wisdom.

Pasta Fagioli
John's brother sent this recipe to
Hannah for her cookbook project. It originally called for 1/4 pound of
ham or bacon but we used beef instead. It also called for cannellini
beans. I don't even know what those are. I do not like very many
varieties of beans so we used a simple can of pork and beans. Tasted
great! Also, we used a spiral pasta.
Pasta
Fagioli
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 2 Tablespoons olive oil
- ½ cup chopped onion
- 1 rib of celery, chopped and
the leaves, chopped
- 3 cloves minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon coarsely ground
black pepper
- 2 cups of water and 2 bullion
cubes
- 1 (28 ounce) can crushed
tomatoes
- 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 tablespoon dried parsley
- 2 cups ditalini pasta
- 1 (15 ounce) can pork and
beans
DIRECTIONS
- In a large pot over medium
heat, cook beef until no longer pink. Drain and set aside.
- In the same pot, heat the
olive oil. Cook onion, celery, garlic and black pepper until vegetables
are tender, 10 minutes. Stir in broth, crushed tomatoes and tomato paste.
Season with thyme, basil, oregano and parsley. Cover, reduce heat and
simmer 1 hour. (At this point, you may put the pot on a back burner to
keep warm and continue with the next steps about 1 hour prior to serving,
if you wish.)
- Stir in the beef and simmer
15 minutes. Stir in the pasta and cook until al dente, 8 to 10 minutes.
Stir in the beans and heat through, 10 to 15 minutes.
Enjoy!

Saucy Chicken
Saucy Chicken
I promised yesterday on my regular blog that I would post this recipe here. So here it is! Enjoy!! I originally found this
recipe on the envelope of the Lipton Soup mix.
Later on, I couldn’t find it or remember the name. Hannah started calling it “Saucy Chicken” and
the name stuck. These are the
ingredients we use. I don’t know how
much like the original it is. Everyone
loves it and it’s very easy. I usually
serve it with rice.
2-3 whole chicken breasts
cut into strips
2/3 cup mayonnaise
1 envelope Lipton Recipe Secrets - Savory Herb With
Garlic Soup mix
water
Arrange
chicken strips in a 9x 13 casserole dish.
Mix
mayonnaise and soup mix together. Add
about 2 or 3 tablespoons of water (I don’t usually measure how much. I just stir some in.)
Pour
mixture on top of chicken and bake in the oven until done.

Household Tips
My sister in law sent me this list. It isn’t necessarily kitchen but since it is household I thought I would include it on this blog. Except for the dryer sheet idea, I haven’t tried any of these. I’m definitely going see if the measuring cup tip works. What about you? Have you tried any of these ideas? Reheat Pizza Heat up leftover pizza in a non-stick skillet on top of the stove, set heat to med-low and heat till warm. This keeps the crust crispy. No soggy micro pizza. I saw this on the cooking channel and it really works. Easy Deviled Eggs Put cooked egg yolks in a zip lock bag. Seal, mash till they are all broken up. Add remainder of ingredients, reseal, keep mashing it up mixing thoroughly, cut the tip of the baggy, squeeze mixture into egg. Just throw bag away when done easy clean up. Expanding Frosting When you buy a container of cake frosting from the store, whip it with your mixer for a few minutes. You can double it in size. You get to frost more cake/cupcakes with the same amount. You also eat less sugar/calories per serving. Reheating refrigerated bread To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins that were refrigerated, place them in a microwave with a cup of water. The increased moisture will keep the food moist and help it reheat faster. Newspaper weeds away Start putting in your plants; work the nutrients in your soil. Wet newspapers: put layers around the plants overlapping as you go cover with mulch and forget about weeds. Weeds will get through some gardening plastic they will not get through wet newspapers. Broken Glass Use a dry cotton ball to pick up little broken glass pieces of glass - the fibers catch ones you can't see! No More Mosquitoes Place a dryer sheet in your pocket. It will keep the mosquitoes away. Squirrel Away! To keep squirrels from eating your plants sprinkle your plants with cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper doesn't hurt the plant and the squirrels won’t come near it. Easier thank you's When you throw a bridal/baby shower, buy a pack of thank you cards for the guest of honor. During the party, pass out the envelopes and have everyone put their address on one. When the bride/new mom sends the thank you's, they're all addressed! MINE!!!!! If you purchase a new bike for your child, place their picture inside the handle bar before placing the grips on. If the bike is stolen and later recovered, remove the grip and there i s your proof who owns the bike. Hmmm… that might help but perhaps using an engraving tool to write their name permanently would be even better. Flexible vacuum To get something out of a heat register or under the fridge add an empty paper towel roll or empty gift wrap roll to your vacuum. It can be bent or flattened to get in narrow openings. Reducing Static Cling Pin a small safety pin to the seam of your slip and you will not have a clingy skirt or dress. Same thing works with slacks that cling when wearing panty hose. Place pin in seam of slacks and - voila - static is gone. Measuring Cups Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill it with hot water. Dump out the hot water, but don't dry the cup. Next, add your ingredient, such as peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes right out. Foggy Windshield? Hate foggy windshields? Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in the glove box of your car. When the windows fog, rub with the eraser! Works better than a cloth! Reopening envelope If you seal an envelope and then realize you forgot to include something inside, just place your sealed envelope in the freezer for an hour or two. Voila! It unseals easily. Conditioner Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It's a lot cheaper than shaving cream and leaves your legs really smooth. It's also a great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn't like when you tried it in your hair. Good-bye Fruit Flies To get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass fill it 1/2" with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dishwashing liquid, mix well. You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever! Get Rid of Ants Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it, take it "home," & can't digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, esp. if it rains, but it works & you don't have the worry about pets or small children being harmed! Take baby powder to the beach Keep a small bottle of baby powder in your beach bag. When you're ready to leave the beach sprinkle yourself and kids with the powder and the sand will slide right off your skin.

Corn Tortillas
Have you ever written something down on a scrap of paper and
then lost it? That is what I did with
this recipe – about 3 years ago! This
afternoon I was helping Holly to clean out one of her drawers and she had a
notebook in it. So I was flipping
through the pages to see if there was anything worth saving and I finally found
my long lost recipe. I have eaten these
at someone else’s home but have not made them myself.
Corn Tortillas
Mix together -
1 ½ cups cold water
1 cup flour
½ cup corn meal
¼ teaspoon salt
1 egg
Heat vegetable oil in a skillet. Pour batter onto skillet like pancakes and
flip when edges are dry. Keep them warm
in the oven until ready to serve. These
can be deep fried if you want them to be crunchy.

Being on the road, I don't have much time for my regular blog

I'd probably replace it with cream of celery or chicken. 1 large chicken, boiled and deboned 2 cans cream of chicken soup, undiluted 2 cans cream of mushroom soup, undiluted 1 can tomatoes w/jalapenos or green chilies 1 8 ounce can tomato sauce 2 pkgs. taco seasoning mixes Optional-chopped onions, green peppers, black olives , cheese, when serving. Szechwan Chicken

Coconut Bread
I have always made this in Romania and never in the states. The coconut there is much finer and not very sweet. I don’t usually make the glaze. Coconut Bread Ingredients: 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened 1 cup sugar 2 eggs 2 teaspoons coconut flavoring 2 cups self rising flour 1 cup sour cream 1 cup sweetened flaked coconut 1 cup confectioners sugar 5 tablespoons milk Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease one 8x4x2 inch loaf pan. 2. Cream the butter or margarine, sugar and eggs together. Add the coconut flavoring and mix well.
3. Mix in the self-rising flour alternately with the sour cream to the
creamed mixture. Stir in the flaked coconut. Pour the batter into the
prepared pan. 4. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 50 minutes. Pour glaze over hot loaf and serve. 5. To Make Glaze: Mix the confectioner's sugar and milk together until smooth.

Tonight for dinner
Tonight John is cooking up some
chinese food. It's his favorite and we all like it too,
especially when he makes it! There was some leftover shrimp
and crab that needed to be used before our trip tomorrow. Should
be great! After dinner, I'll update my other blog, Wired Wisdom about our upcoming trip.

OK,
I've worked way too long on my new template and it's time to get
to bed! I still have to work on giving credit
for Rajiv's graphics but I just couldn't get it to work. I'll try again soon. I have some more work to do here.
Anyone have any great low fat recipes to share? I'd love to try something new. Thanks and Happy New Year!!

DIXIE’S CRANBERRY SALAD
Since
Thanksgiving is just days away, I thought I'd share my mom's
specialty. She makes it every year and it's absolutely
scrumptious! DIXIE’S CRANBERRY SALAD 2 small packages red Jello – your favorite flavor (mine is strawberry, strawberry/banana, or mixed fruit) 2 cups boiling water 2 cups pineapple juice 2 cups cranberries – measure whole and then crush 1 cup sugar 2 cups orange sections, cut in small pieces 2 cups sweet apple, cubed 2 cups red grapes, halved and seeded 2 cups pecan pieces 2 cups bananas, cubed Dissolve Jello in boiling water. Add pineapple juice and refrigerate until slushy. Grind cranberries. Stir in sugar and set aside. Cut the apples and then the oranges. (Oranges will keep the apples from turning dark) Cut the rest of the fruits. After the sugar is dissolved, stir cranberries into the other fruits. When the Jello is partially set, add the fruit mixture and refrigerate several hours or overnight. Dixie Anderson
