1. What types of books do you enjoy reading? (Non-fiction, fiction, history, science, homeschooling, Christian self-help, biographies, etc.)

This is our first year homeschool - so I'm reading homeschooling books all the time! We've really enjoyed basing most of our lessons on History this year - so I would say that for me, it's a tie... Homeschooling and History.

2. What book or kind of book would you like to see published that isn't already published? (What type of homeschool book, self-help book, deovtional/bible study book, fiction, etc.)

I've been feeling a calling to go back in time, so to speak when it comes to being a wife, a mother and a homemaker. I really enjoy the hanging clothes on the line, making my own bread, doing things by the same schedules that my Grandmother and Greatgrandmother did... what I'd really like to see published is Vintage Homemaking Skills for the Modern Day. A collection of recipes, schedules, social graces, patterns, etc. Perhaps even with a devotion on each page.

3. I have 25 years experience as a homeschool Mom and educator. I currently homeschool in a cottage school setting, where I homeschool my own three children and eight others. Would you like to know anything about cottage schooling? If so, what?

How do you teach so many kids? Is it difficult teaching someone elses children? What curriculum do you use? What have you found works best and doesn't work at all?

4. I am a pastor's wife have children with disabilities, ride a motorcycle and love animals. What would you like to know about my experiences?

I'd love to hear more about your children. What kind of disabilities do they have? How do you help them overcome them? How do you teach them?

5. What type of Christian fiction do you like to read? (sci-fi, romance, historical, chick lit., suspense, etc.)

I really love Christian romance. However, I also really enjoyed the Left Behind series.

1. What types of books do you enjoy reading? (Non-fiction, fiction, history, science, homeschooling, Christian self-help, biographies, etc.)
Homemaking books, Books for Writers, Books to boost and help with creativity, books for children, on motherhood, preferrably with a Christian focus. I love Women in history... and so on.

2. What book or kind of book would you like to see published that isn't already published? (What type of homeschool book, self-help book, deovtional/bible study book, fiction, etc.)
I wish there was a book to make quilting as little intimidating as possible. One giving hope and helping someone get beyond the fear to just MAKE one.
I'd love a book on finding balance between serving God in hospitality and not being selfish with our time after taking care of more important priorities and things like that.

3. I have 25 years experience as a homeschool Mom and educator. I currently homeschool in a cottage school setting, where I homeschool my own three children and eight others. Would you like to know anything about cottage schooling? If so, what?
I don't know if I would want to know about it for a whole book's worth but I don't home school anymore so my interests are going to be different. I think I would be interested in reading about it in an article or two if I was presently homeschooling.

4. I am a pastor's wife have children with disabilities, ride a motorcycle and love animals. What would you like to know about my experiences?
How do you not lose yourself in your roles ? Wha ti mean is... how do you keep up with kids who struggle to live normals lives and not drown yourself out in the process? I know we are to lead unselfish lives and pour ourselves out as Jesus did but even Jesus took time to Himself to go to the Father and to pray. Make any sense?
Love to read on how you broke from familiar molds to start riding a motorcycle and what are the benefits and blessings of doing so?
How do you take care of your animals and their basic needs ... and still have time to give them adequate attention when you are so busy?

5. What type of Christian fiction do you like to read? (sci-fi, romance, historical, chick lit., suspense, etc.)
Hmmmm. I usually cannot STAND Christian fiction because every one I've ever read has been so sad and filled with such struggles that I end up depressed. If there were a christian fiction book NOT like every other one I've read... I'd probably like ones on women. Stories, I guess. Like a book about a woman who overcomes childhood trauma , lives a normal life, and eventually becomes some famous something who is happy with who she ends up being or something. Just an example, of course.

1. What types of books do you enjoy reading? (Non-fiction, fiction, history, science, homeschooling, Christian self-help, biographies, etc.)

I love reading. I have the hardest time reading nonfiction unless it is a subject i am really interested in. I do enjoy reading history and biographies.

What are your experiences with special needs children (your own & others) in the cottage school? How do you handle them & meet all their needs? 1. What types of books do you enjoy reading? (Non-fiction, fiction, history, science, homeschooling, Christian self-help, biographies, etc.)

Non-fiction--I like to learn about practical things, but most often read books that help me to grow spiritually in different areas.

2. What book or kind of book would you like to see published that isn't already published? (What type of homeschool book, self-help book, deovtional/bible study book, fiction, etc.)

There is no end to the books that have been written! There are many that are on my reading "wish list," but I don't have the time--so I can't say that I've perceived a void that needs filling in this area.

3. I have 25 years experience as a homeschool Mom and educator. I currently homeschool in a cottage school setting, where I homeschool my own three children and eight others. Would you like to know anything about cottage schooling? If so, what?

Is a cottage school setting similar to a public or private school? In comparing a cottage school to these two alternatives, what makes it unique--or preferable?

4. I am a pastor's wife have children with disabilities, ride a motorcycle and love animals. What would you like to know about my experiences?

From my experience with Pastor's wives, they tend to be a bunch of hard-working women who fill in gaps when no one else will step up to the plate. Yet, they also tend to be excluded from the body because of their "position" as a Pastor's wife. What has been your experience in these areas as a Pastor's wife, what do you think the root cause is, and how do you feel that this "divide" might be overcome?

5. What type of Christian fiction do you like to read? (sci-fi, romance, historical, chick lit., suspense, etc.)

I'm way too practical to read Christian fiction.

3. I have 25 years experience as a homeschool Mom and educator. I currently homeschool in a cottage school setting, where I homeschool my own three children and eight others. Would you like to know anything about cottage schooling? If so, what? Yes, I would like to know about cottage schooling very much. 1. What types of books do you enjoy reading? (Non-fiction, fiction, history, science, homeschooling, Christian self-help, biographies, etc.)

Fiction - mostly literary. Also young adult, science fiction, women's fiction (not much romance), some mystery, crime, horror, historical...

Non-fiction - mostly psychology, social issues, and books about Bible history, science, etc.

2. What book or kind of book would you like to see published that isn't already published? (What type of homeschool book, self-help book, deovtional/bible study book, fiction, etc.)

More Christian family books - family devotionals, Bible studies, picture books, story books etc - that don't assume an anti-science, or anti-questioning attitude, so husbands and college kids wouldn't feel excluded.

3. I have 25 years experience as a homeschool Mom and educator. I currently homeschool in a cottage school setting, where I homeschool my own three children and eight others. Would you like to know anything about cottage schooling? If so, what?

Interesting, but my kids are all in college now.

4. I am a pastor's wife have children with disabilities, ride a motorcycle and love animals. What would you like to know about my experiences?

pastor's wife on a motorbike. Animals. Kids with disabilities. Seems like all of it's interesting.

5. What type of Christian fiction do you like to read? (sci-fi, romance, historical, chick lit., suspense, etc.)

Historical - Jane Kirkpatrick. Probably not chick lit. Romance if I need to just collapse in a heap. Got put off suspense and sci-fi by the heavy handed ones I read a few years back, but probably time I read some more.

1. What types of books do you enjoy reading? (Non-fiction, fiction, history, science, homeschooling, Christian self-help, biographies, etc.)
* For fiction: sci-fi, fantasy, horror, thrillers, detective, Science or medical based suspense, some chic lit and romance.
2. What book or kind of book would you like to see published that isn't already published? (What type of homeschool book, self-help book, deovtional/bible
study book, fiction, etc.)
* For fiction: more stories about the disabled making good -- helping themselves and others. Too many people see the disabled as doing nothing. The same for non-fiction books, Books by the disabled on how they do things and how the non-disabled can use these same hints.
3. I have 25 years experience as a homeschool Mom and educator. I currently homeschool in a cottage school setting, where I homeschool my own three children
and eight others. Would you like to know anything about cottage schooling? If so, what?
* How extensive is your curriculum? does it include teachings on things other than acedemic? I encourage my children to take part in other activities -- sports, school government, tutoring others, community service, etc. Do these things have a place in your studies? I feel a person's education should be as well rounded as possible.
4. I am a pastor's wife have children with disabilities, ride a motorcycle and love animals. What would you like to know about my experiences?
* What types of disabilites are you involved with? How do you teach your tudents both disabled and not, to interact with those who don't always accept those different from themselves? While my children were in elementary school, I would go (along with my guide dog) to the grade they were in and give a tal about how people with disabilities did common, everyday things. Some of the questions I got were touching and even funny. I believe people should look at a person's abilities, not what they can't do. k
5. What type of Christian fiction do you like to read? (sci-fi, romance, historical, chick lit., suspense, etc.)
* Fantasy, woman's fiction, suspense - except for the times I need to read "blood and gore" to vent, I read the same things in Christian lit as I do otherwise. -

Mar. 22, 2008 - Oh, a book contest!

Posted by lovedandamazed

I love historical books and I also love Karen Kingsbury. I happen to have not read "Oceans Apart" yet, so I am excited about the opportunity to win both of those books.

1. What types of books do you enjoy reading?

I like all kinds of Christian fiction, and non-fiction which helps me in my walk with the Lord.

2. What book or kind of book would you like to see published that isn't already published? (What type of homeschool book, self-help book, deovtional/bible study book, fiction, etc.)

Hmmm... as an aspiring Christian fiction author (very early in my journey!), I think this would be the book that I have not written yet. :-)

3. I have 25 years experience as a homeschool Mom and educator. I currently homeschool in a cottage school setting, where I homeschool my own three children and eight others. Would you like to know anything about cottage schooling? If so, what?

What is it like homeschooling children who are not in your family? I was homeschooled through all 12 grades and plan to homeschool my own children someday, Lord willing, but I've never known anyone who expanded their classes beyond their family.

4. I am a pastor's wife have children with disabilities, ride a motorcycle and love animals. What would you like to know about my experiences?

Which disabilities do your children have? God makes each one special, inside and out.

5. What type of Christian fiction do you like to read? (sci-fi, romance, historical, chick lit., suspense, etc.)

Hmmm... my top selection would be historical, with chick lit coming in second.

Thank you for the chance to win!

2. What book or kind of book would you like to see published that isn't already published? (What type of homeschool book, self-help book, deovtional/bible study book, fiction, etc.)

3. I have 25 years experience as a homeschool Mom and educator. I currently homeschool in a cottage school setting, where I homeschool my own three children and eight others. Would you like to know anything about cottage schooling? If so, what?

What is cottage schooling? (I'm displaying my ignorance...)

What do you like best about being a pastor's wife?

5. What type of Christian fiction do you like to read? (sci-fi, romance, historical, chick lit., suspense, etc.)

About the only Christian fiction I've read is children's books published a long time ago, such as the Elsie books. I don't read much Christian fiction, although lots of the fictional children's books that I read have Christian characters in them.

Blessings to you!

1. What types of books do you enjoy reading? I enjoy reading all types of books. I have two young daughters so I love reading picture books with them and watching their faces light up at the silliest things. Otherwise I read what I happen to pick up. I have all sorts of fiction and non fiction books floating around my house.

2. What book or kind of book would you like to see published that isn't already published? I know there are some out there but I would like to see more young children's craft books that use common household items but also give really detailed instructions. I often find they do one or the other.

3. I have 25 years experience as a homeschool Mom and educator. I currently homeschool in a cottage school setting, where I homeschool my own three children and eight others. Would you like to know anything about cottage schooling? If so, what? I would like to know if you could move closer to my house so we can go to school with you!

4. I am a pastor's wife have children with disabilities, ride a motorcycle and love animals. What would you like to know about my experiences? I would like to know about the struggles you have had with your special need children and how you have over come them. I often find that disabilities often lead to creative solutions we can all benefit from.

5. What type of Christian fiction do you like to read? I like to read historical Christian fiction the most, but I try not to set limits on myself.

Right now I am enjoying historical fiction with my kids. I never enjoyed history much until now!

I would like to see something writting on the subject of marriage and verbal abuse from a Christian perspective. Patricia Evans books are great but Christian counselors and the church tend to shy away from it because there aren't Bible verses spread through out.

How do you legally cottage school ?
What is a typical day like?

4. I am a pastor's wife have children with disabilities, ride a motorcycle and love animals. What would you like to know about my experiences?

What are the disabilities and how do you cope?

Historical

2. What book or kind of book would you like to see published that isn't already published? (What type of homeschool book, self-help book, deovtional/bible study book, fiction, etc.)
I'm a pastor's wife too and I would like to see a book about false expectations of the pastor and his family and how to overcome them.

Wow! I have never heard of that but I think it is a brilliant idea! I would totally do that if it were avaiable to me. I would like to know how you came to be doing that and if the other parents are involved as well.

4. I am a pastor's wife have children with disabilities, ride a motorcycle and love animals. What would you like to know about my experiences?

5. What type of Christian fiction do you like to read? (sci-fi, romance, historical, chick lit., suspense, etc.)

I like chick lit. And anything that makes me cry! I am a sucker for a good cry.

1. What types of books do you enjoy reading? (Non-fiction, fiction, history, science, homeschooling, Christian self-help, biographies, etc.)

Ans: Non-fiction inspirational books are my favorites. I literally devoured all types of homeschooling books when I started out in 1991. I also like some Christian self-help.

2. What book or kind of book would you like to see published that isn't already published? (What type of homeschool book, self-help book, deovtional/bible study book, fiction, etc.)

Ans.: Actually, I'm looking for a devotional/bible study for grandmothers.

3. I have 25 years experience as a homeschool Mom and educator. I currently homeschool in a cottage school setting, where I homeschool my own three children and eight others. Would you like to know anything about cottage schooling? If so, what?

Ans.: I'm pretty familiar with cottage schooling as we have one in our area.

4. I am a pastor's wife have children with disabilities, ride a motorcycle and love animals. What would you like to know about my experiences?

Ans.: I'm sure you could share with many people about teaching children with disabilities. Knowing about your struggles and encouragements would surely help many others.

5. What type of Christian fiction do you like to read? (sci-fi, romance, historical, chick lit., suspense, etc.)

Ans.: I read little or no Christian fiction. If I had to pick one, however, it would be one that is allegorical, such as Pilgrim's Progress. My oldest daughter loves historical fiction and my youngest the Kingsbury books.

1. What types of books do you enjoy reading? (Non-fiction, fiction, history, science, homeschooling, Christian self-help, biographies, etc.)

I love all of the above, with historical fiction being my favorite (especially the 1800's).

2. What book or kind of book would you like to see published that isn't already published? (What type of homeschool book, self-help book, deovtional/bible study book, fiction, etc.)

Wow, there are so many books out there. All I can say is more of my favorites (or ones like them)-Karen Andreola's "Pocketful of Pinecones", Janette Oke's Acadian Series, etc.

3. I have 25 years experience as a homeschool Mom and educator. I currently homeschool in a cottage school setting, where I homeschool my own three children and eight others. Would you like to know anything about cottage schooling? If so, what?

I've never heard of cottage schooling. I'd love to know what a typical day is like. Is it similar to an Organic school, do the other mom's help out, do all the children have to do the same things or can they explore topics of interest, is it still homeschooling or just public school in a much smaller setting?

4. I am a pastor's wife have children with disabilities, ride a motorcycle and love animals. What would you like to know about my experiences?

Most pastor's wives that I've met seem "perfect". How do you keep it all together?

5. What type of Christian fiction do you like to read? (sci-fi, romance, historical, chick lit., suspense, etc.)

My 2 favorites are historical and chick lit. I love Janette Oke, Robin Gunn, Karen Kingsbury and Kristin Billerbeck.

This was a fun contest. Thanks for doing it.

1. What types of books do you enjoy reading? (Non-fiction, fiction, history, science, homeschooling, Christian self-help, biographies, etc.)

For myself I enjoy reading historical fiction - I like the story line mixed in with the true history. For the kids, I mix it up and try to pick a book from a different category each time.

2. What book or kind of book would you like to see published that isn't already published? (What type of homeschool book, self-help book, deovtional/bible study book, fiction, etc.)

I don't have a good answer for you on that one. I haven't ran into anything that I have wanted and couldn't find information on.

3. I have 25 years experience as a homeschool Mom and educator. I currently homeschool in a cottage school setting, where I homeschool my own three children and eight others. Would you like to know anything about cottage schooling? If so, what?

I would enjoy hearing about your personal experiences - the stressful times and the fun times.

4. I am a pastor's wife have children with disabilities, ride a motorcycle and love animals. What would you like to know about my experiences?

Most people don't know what life is like for a pastor's wife. It would be interesting to hear more about that.

5. What type of Christian fiction do you like to read? (sci-fi, romance, historical, chick lit., suspense, etc.)

Historical/mild suspense!

Happy Easter! Here are my answers ~ 1.) There are not too many kinds of books that I don't like to read. I don't like the far-our paranormal or the erotic ones. 2.) I would like to see a book about Debtor's Anonymous. There are a lot of people like me out there and they need help. I had to do a lot of searching for my own help. There are so many people in credit debt, they could use some help. 3.) I would like to know what a
Cottage Schooling Setting" is like. 4.) You sound like a busy lady, how do you do it all?! 5.) I like to read Christian fiction, romance, suspense, etc. Thanks for a fun contest. Cindi : )
