You will notice a new link on my blog and on the Homebound Missions web site. This is a sponsorship link that will bring you directly to the New Missions site and their Child Sponsorhip Program.
New Missions isn't new to Tyler and I, we have know the DeTellis family from way back, before they went to Haiti. The late George DeTellis, who sadly passed away June 26, 2008 used to Pastor a Church known to us as The Jesus Loves You Church. The Church was on Belmont Street in Worcester right next to Memorial Hospital and on the outside of the building in huge letters read those words. Tyler and I went there often for youth events (when we were dating), thus we got to know the Detellis children.
We have watched through the years as they have gone from 5 tents in 1983 to the unbelieveable ministry they are today. You can learn more about New Missions by checking out their web site.
If you would like to know what kind of people and commitment the DeTellis's have for Haiti I would highly recommend Jeanne DeTellis's book, A Stubborn Hope. You will not believe the price Jeanne has paid for their work in Haiti, and yet I am sure she doesn't even think of it that way. I consider her a very remarkable woman.
Before Tyler and I started Homebound Missions we went to visit New Missions in Haiti. At the time, we met with Charlie (one of the DeTellis's sons). We told him about our organization and what we were thinking about doing. Specifically that we wanted to resource other organizations. He was so supportive and encouraged us that Missions in Haiti desperately needed such an organization. He also warned us of the risk of coming to Haiti unprepared, with our own ideas. He offered to us his time to discuss any ideas we might come up with, so that he could offer insight. Tyler and I have always appreciated his assistance on that day and his helpful words.
New Missions is presently working on a campaign to raise awareness and increase their Child Sponsorship Program. It is called The Marie Chantal Story, Hope That Continues to Change a Nation. You will receive a Free DVD along with a book,The Pearls of Leadership Seven Treasures From 1804, written by Timothy DeTellis. The book was just awesome. If you want to understand the Haiti problem it is defined here. All these things are Free, but definitely worth a donation.
If you are interested in sponsoring a child from Haiti simply click on our new link and it will take you directly to the sponsorship page at New Missions. Tyler and I enjoy sponsoring children and write to them often to share with them from the Bible and encourage them to grow in Christ. How could you change the life of a child?
Tyler and I have been looking for something that we could do that would benefit New Missions, and thanks to this new campaign we realized that bringing awareness to their Child Sponsorship Program is probably the best thing we can do right now. |
