A Little Bit O' Crazy

Posted in Just for Fun

Life at my house is nothing if not interesting.  Raising five children and being married to a man with a somewhat wacky sense of humor makes for plenty of opportunities for the unusual to occur.

I am often asked by people who get a taste of my husband's...ummm......unique (yes, that's the word--unique) sense of humor if he is like this all of the time.  The answer I often give (or wish I was clever enough to give) is "only when he's not sleeping or sick with the flu".  (If you are wondering about the above picture, those silver things are ice cream scoops, and the reason I am putting this crazy picture up on my blog is because my husband actually asked me to.)

He is training his children to follow after him in his zaney approach to life, which can be a bit unsettling for this momma who takes herself way too seriously at times.

God knew I needed someone to help me lighten up about things, so he gave me this man (and incidentally his children) who knows how to see the silly side of life.  Boy, is it ever good for me.

At the very least, my life is never dull.  At best, my husband gives me the gift of joy and makes our home a place of laughter and contentment.  It is a good place to be, and I am a blessed woman indeed.

God did a good job when He made my kids....

Posted in Just for Fun

If it sounds like I'm bragging too much, I apologize, but I think my children are really cute!  Take a look and you might agree:

(My husband's pretty cute, too.)

Autumn Pleasures

Posted in Just for Fun

The simple pleasures of autumn: the colored leaves falling like confetti, the smell of woodsmoke hanging in the crisp air, the taste of fresh apples, a visit to the pumpkin patch.  The romantic in me can't help but love fall above all other seasons.  I only wish it lasted longer.

And now, for a little glimse of our family's visit to the pumpkin patch...

"Boy, is this thing heavy!"

Beware the Headless....err...something....

Ahh, the joy of finding the perfect pumpkin!

I know there's a little person somewhere under that hat.

"Now Autumn's fire burns slowly along the woods,
And day by day the dead leaves fall and melt,
And night by night the monitory blast
Wails in the key-hole, telling how it pass'd
O'er empty fields, or upland solitudes,
Or grim wide wave; and now the power is felt
Of melancholy, tenderer in its moods
Than any joy indulgent Summer dealt."
-William Allington, "Autumnal Sonnet"

Books to the Ceiling

Posted in Just for Fun

Books to the ceiling, books to the sky.

My pile of books are a mile high.

How I love them!

How I need them!

I'll have a long beard by the time I read them.

The stack of "Books To Be Read" on my nightstand

At least my stack is neater than the one on my husband's nightstand....

That's me, practical and discreet....

Which Jane Austen Heroine Am I?

You are Elinor Dashwood of Sense & Sensibility! You are practical, circumspect, and discreet. Though you are tremendously sensible and allow your head to rule, you have a deep, emotional side that few people often see.

Elinor Dashwood!

I'm sure you were just dying to know that about me, weren't you?

Which Austen Heroine are you?  Take the quiz and find out.

Just Tell Me What the Hammer's For

Posted in Just for Fun

My ten-year-old son just popped his head into the school room a few minutes ago, a hammer in his hand.  "Can I use the hammer?"  he asked.

"For what?"  was my reply.

"Hammering," he told me, as if that should be obvious.

Being the detail oriented person I am, I persisted.  "Hammering what?"

"Nails,"  he replied, again seemingly wondering why his mother couldn't figure out something that appeared quite obvious.

Undaunted, I asked "Into what?"

To this, he sighed, said "Nevermind," and walked out of the room, replacing the hammer in it's drawer before going outside.

I'm left wondering if I was being unreasonable or extremely wise.

A look into the life and thoughts of a homeschooling mother of five beautiful children, helpmeet to one wonderful man, and daughter of the King of Kings.
