Summertime Scheduling

Posted in Scheduling

I finally sat down and planned out the next three months on the calendar; looking at all the local attractions to add to our weekly outings and budget.  I pulled up our county library schedule and chose the events we would like to participate in. Things like "Reading Club," "Amazing Acrobats," and "Science Mayhem."

Then I went to our city's website and chose the events for our calendar.  Events like "4th of July Parade," "Kids Fair," and "Symphony In The Park."  These are all free .  Then I perused the favorite homeschool field trip spots and added some specials in there, along with a visit to a favorite park each week.  It is nice to know that atleast I have a general calendar for each month, and we can use it as a guideline for our summer activities.

On the days we are not away from home, I planned a "general guideline" schedule (broken down by hour).  I am going to try my best to stick to it, but knowing my personality I will probably stray away multiple times each day (LOL). Structure is something I have had to work on as a Homeschool Mom, because I absolutely abhor it at times.  I guess it is my creative side or something, but I always feel confined when I have to stick to a set schedule, yet somehow, someway I manage to constrain myself to a set schedule each month.  GO FIGURE!  I guess it gives me some sense of normalcy, in a crazy kind of way . . . oh but I fight it!

Here is what I came up with so far:

Daily Schedule (Summer 2006)
6:00 to 7:00 a.m.
Shower and Get Ready For The Day
7:00 to 8:00 a.m.
Bible Study/Prayer Time
and Family Breakfast.
8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
Kiddos Outdoor Play
9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
Morning Devotions For Kids/Character Development

9:30 a.m. to 10 :00 a.m.
 Snack/Art

10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Summer Bridge Academics

11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Rest/Read-Alouds

12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

LUNCH

1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Swimming and Outdoor Play/Field Trip

3:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Afternoon Snack and clean-up; Thomas goes home

3:30 to 6:00 p.m.
Dinner Preparations/ Chores
6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
DINNER
7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Family Bike Ride or Walk
8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Individual Hobby Time
9:30 p.m.
Kaitlin's Bedtime

9:30 to 11:30 p.m.
Daddy & Mommy Time/Prayer
and Reading

Somewhere in all of this is daily housecleaning.  Probably while the kiddos are resting, or playing. Does a Mom's work ever end?

Do you have a summer schedule or do you play it by ear?

I really need to make a schedule...that's the easy part...and stick to it...that's the hard part. I bought Manager's of Their Homes a couple of years back and have the schedule hanging in our kitchen and we've never followed it. I really need to rework it and use it. Sounds like you guys are going to have a fun summer and get some things done!
Blessings,
~Becky

Sounds great, Kel! I don't even bother with a schedule anymore lol like you, I just don't follow it. I spend all this time making it out and it lasts all of one week if I'm lucky hee hee. I suppose that's why I lean towards 'unschooling'.
I just picked up the schedule for our library's summer programs and used bright sharpees to write in the activities we want to attend...fun fun fun!
Your blog looks great! I like the graphic you used...so peaceful looking!
Big hugz to ya my friend!

I LOVE to make schedules! I love to make them look pretty and I love the organization of it all! I HATE it when the little slip of paper tells me what to do and when to do it! I am sick, I know it! DH knows it. The kids dont seem to realize it yet though! I am seeing that we REALLY need something more around here though. DS seems to need the structured life a bit more. So, I have to work on that so I can help him out with that.

BTW - if you are not home, the house stays clean - doesnt it?!? LOL

Jun. 20, 2006 - Schedules

I love to make schedules each quarter but the hard part is keeping myself on track. Through the 10 years of homeschooling I have found it easier to sched. by blocks of 30 minutes. We have implemented a 30 minute deep clean rotating rooms each day. Everyone gets a project like organizing DVDs, cleaning out a drawer, organizing games, etc. I only have 4 of my 6 kids scheduled because my older ones are working this summer.
Stop by my blog and see our summer schedule.

Kelly is spunky, very unconventional at times, fun to talk with, my best friend, and an incredible Mom and mentor to our dd. She is not afraid to lovingly hear from and tell people the truth when it is required, and is a true covenant friend. She is passionate about her relationship with the Lord, justice and righteousness, and you may see that in our blog. She loves people deeply, and sometimes gets hurt because of it - wearing her heart on her sleeve. Hearing her talk on the phone, laugh and have fun with her friends always makes me grin from the other room. She has great JOY!

Pure One is our 12 year old daughter, whose real name actually means "pure one." She loves Art, Dance, spending time with friends, Drama class, going to musicals and plays, playing the piano, fashion, video games (in moderation), and anything sports related. She also has a keen discernment about people and is sensitive to the Holy Spirit in a beautiful way. She has such a pure heart of worship before the Lord, and it is so inspirational to us.

"The truth is, if we claim Christ, we are never justified in being unkind, cold, indifferent, or cruel. Even if true serious sin needs to be addressed or dealt with, it should be in love, and love is kind, gentle, long-suffering, it seeks to elevate others, it is hopeful, assumes the best, etc. .."

~ Jen Igarashi in her post from June 14th, 2007 "I Wanna Be A Buffalo"

"As parent educators, we need to embrace a new notion of learning. We need to help the child discern the Lords will and equip him to answer his particular call. It is the heart and soul of the child we want to touch. For our purposes, we need to engage the heart in order to effectively educate the child. Our vision of a well-educated child is a child who has a heart for learning, a child who has the tools he needs to continue to learn for a lifetime and the love to want to do it."

~ Edith Stein

"A blessed thing it is for any man or woman to have a friend, one human soul whom we can trust utterly, who knows the best and worst of us, and who loves us in spite of all our faults."

~ Charles Kingsley

"Knowing the past about a person doesn't make us prophetic, but calling them into their future does! The question has never been, "Can we read the history of a man?" The question has always been, "Can we restore the future of a man?" Anyone can read the history of the man, but the Heart of the Father is to release the unfulfilled destiny of His broken children."

~ Denny Steyne
Mountain of Worship

"Out of defeat can come the best in human nature. As Christians face storms of adversity, they may rise with more beauty. They are like trees that grow on mountain ridges -- battered by winds, yet trees in which we find the strongest wood."

~ Billy Graham
