We have had a wonderful restful weekend so far. I am looking ahead to the coming week and am thankful we rested when we could. I have a feeling it is all about to change as we start our deeper studies schedule. We are a year-round home-education family so deep studies happen between Sept-May, and lighter studies between June -August. Of course learning happens all the time, and is a natural part of life, but for the sake of protocol I'll just say "lighter" and "deeper" studies .
Kaitlin's Deeper Study Schedule will be as follows (general guideline):
8:00-9:00 ~ wake up, breakfast, and get ready for the day
9:00-10:00 ~ Bible Study/Devotions/Prayer/Journaling
10:00-11:00 ~ Math
11-11:30 ~ BREAK
11:30-12:30 ~ History (alternating Science)
12:30-1:00 ~ LUNCH
1:00-2:00 ~ Handwriting, Spelling & English (alternating Reading)
2:00-3:00 ~ Extra's (Alternating Health, Spanish, Art, Computer)
Group/Out-Of-Home Activities: Monday (Dance class); Tuesday (Piano); Thursday's (Drama, Gym & Earth Science at co-op); Friday's (Field Trips)
Busy busy, schedule this year, but we always want to leave room for the Holy Spirit to lead, guide and direct. That is one of the reasons I call this a "general" outline.
We are using several curriculums this year: Bob Jones (Science, Reading, Handwriting, and History); ACSI (Spelling); Horizons & Calculadder2 (Math); Notebooking, Journaling; Shurley English (Writing & Composition); Institute In Basic Youth Conflicts ( Character Study series); YWAM Missionary stories (Devotions & Reading), Lots of library books.
There ya have it . . our year in review. ;-) How is your planning coming along?
Any wisdom you would like to share with us about planning a school year?

We also have lighter and deeper learning t/o our year. Glad to see another hs doing this. I find I have to keep up my momentum or it is lost!

yes, we don't really "quit" in the summer either. It is just too long, and I think I would have a harder time getting back into things than my daughter. Besides, it seems the structure does everyone some good. That said, we are not all that "structured." In some ways, we are, but I am not daring enough to assess times to my plan. Then I would feel behind all day. We start when we start, and I really like it when we get to math before lunch : )

Kelly, how, or when do you start having your kids journal? I would love to get my kids doing that during devotions, but I am wondering if they still may be a little young for that.

Kaitlin is in 4th grade and has a prayer journal where she writes down prayer requests and then any answers to those prayers. But when she was younger (4-7) I let her draw what I was reading to her from the Bible. If we were reading about Noah's Ark then she could draw while I read the story, and add sentences to her page if she liked. I wish I had a scanner so I could scan a few pics so you could see. Since she was highly kinesthetic at an early age she alwyas had to be drawing or writing while I read or else she couldn't keep track of what I was saying.
Hope this helps, and thanks so much for asking<>< Kelly
anyone else have any great ideas on journaling? Please feel free to add.
