We woke up this morning and Hubby said, " Let's go on a road trip!" So since we had all of our chores done for the week: grass mowed, house cleaned and everything taken care of, we decided to just do it! What is life without a little spontaneity right?
We decided to head to Lanesboro, MN and Harmony MN. Both have the Amish, but only one has the cave. Which introduces us to the word "spelunking." According to Webster's dictionary, a spelunker is "one who explores caves, especially as a hobby." Now mind you we do not explore caves as a hobby, but were pleasantly surprised to find one in Amish country. I found it online before we left the house, and it is called Niagra Cave. Here is a picture of our descent into the cave.

The tour lasted 1 1/2 hours and went down approximately 225 feet. We came across underground waterfalls, a wedding chapel, loads of stalactites, and a few stalagmites. Hubby and Pure One were so fascinated by the layers of limestone. This was a fun adventure, and full of great learning. Below is a picture of an underground river passing under some rocks. We are six feet up.

Across the county road was a quaint Amish country store with a saw mill and farm beside it. There was a beautiful young Amish boy sitting in the back of a wagon pulled by horses, and I asked to take his picture. However he kindly shook his head "no" so I honored that and asked if I could take a picture of his horses instead. Of course that was okay, so here it is:

Then we headed over to historic Lanesboro, which is a cozy community, nestled in a valley, surrounded by bluffs and trees. There are quaint little shops, horse and buggy rides, along with inner-tubing down the Root River.

This is where we stopped for some ice cream. It was a German deli, and since Hubby is German he was overjoyed to find such a gem of a place.
Another great day, and more great memories made together.
