Minnesota Yearly Compulsory Reporting (It's Nearing That Time Again)

Posted in Organizing Tips and Reports

It's that time of year again, when those of us in Minnesota have to complete our Letter of Intent and MACHECompulsory Reporting Forms, to send into local ISD. It sounds complicated but is really very simple once you have all the paperwork initially completed.  Then each subsequent year you simply fill in the blanks with any new information.  I thought I would share a few of our letters for those of you that may be new to MN, and new to homeschooling.  The 1st one is our cover letter, and 2nd is our Yearly Schedule.

Note: We always have our initials at the bottom of each page, along with our signatures and date, so school offices cannot tamper with paperwork in any way.  I also send all of our paperwork "certified mail," so there is proof ISD offices have recieved paperwork in a timely manner.

Hey Kelli...

We use the form supplied by Mache. We fill it all out and send back in by October 1st.

The only required paperwork you MUST submit is the Compulsory Instruction Report. To ensure that I report all necessary items and don't report more than required,

I use MACHE's Non-Public Education Compulsory Instruction Report.

If you're a member of MACHE, you should have received your newsletter which contains the form and instructions on filling it out. If you're not a member of MACHE, you can visit the MACHE web site and download the form and instructions for free.

For the schedule I used to attach a copy of the school district calendar and highlight the dates I planned to have school.

Now (for the last few years) I just write in "September-May, with holidays and vacations similar to the district we reside.

For the testing, I usually write in the test I plan to use (Peabody, SAT, Iowa) and then "date TBD" or "March 2008"

This way I know the bases are covered by forms provided by Mache, who has crossed the T's and dotted the i's for us already! : ))

Annointed,
Thanks for sharing what works for you each year. I also use the MACHE Compulsory Forms instead of the ISD forms - much better! Also, do you notorize all of your forms each year? I haven't done that as of yet, but is it something you suggest?

Great info (thumbs up)

HI Kelly,

Great question!

I have not notarized our ISD documents in the past. However, when you shared that you initial each page of your letter... it made me think we might be wise to take it to the next step - I believe having something notarized just 'seals' it. Of course, the other part of me wants to keep things simple, like mache suggests Mache suggests...

Thank goodness, we don't have to do more than we are required... what a Blessings to have the freedom to educate at home!!

Kelly is spunky, very unconventional at times, fun to talk with, my best friend, and an incredible Mom and mentor to our dd. She is not afraid to lovingly hear from and tell people the truth when it is required, and is a true covenant friend. She is passionate about her relationship with the Lord, justice and righteousness, and you may see that in our blog. She loves people deeply, and sometimes gets hurt because of it - wearing her heart on her sleeve. Hearing her talk on the phone, laugh and have fun with her friends always makes me grin from the other room. She has great JOY!

Pure One is our 12 year old daughter, whose real name actually means "pure one." She loves Art, Dance, spending time with friends, Drama class, going to musicals and plays, playing the piano, fashion, video games (in moderation), and anything sports related. She also has a keen discernment about people and is sensitive to the Holy Spirit in a beautiful way. She has such a pure heart of worship before the Lord, and it is so inspirational to us.

"The truth is, if we claim Christ, we are never justified in being unkind, cold, indifferent, or cruel. Even if true serious sin needs to be addressed or dealt with, it should be in love, and love is kind, gentle, long-suffering, it seeks to elevate others, it is hopeful, assumes the best, etc. .."

~ Jen Igarashi in her post from June 14th, 2007 "I Wanna Be A Buffalo"

"As parent educators, we need to embrace a new notion of learning. We need to help the child discern the Lords will and equip him to answer his particular call. It is the heart and soul of the child we want to touch. For our purposes, we need to engage the heart in order to effectively educate the child. Our vision of a well-educated child is a child who has a heart for learning, a child who has the tools he needs to continue to learn for a lifetime and the love to want to do it."

~ Edith Stein

"A blessed thing it is for any man or woman to have a friend, one human soul whom we can trust utterly, who knows the best and worst of us, and who loves us in spite of all our faults."

~ Charles Kingsley

"Knowing the past about a person doesn't make us prophetic, but calling them into their future does! The question has never been, "Can we read the history of a man?" The question has always been, "Can we restore the future of a man?" Anyone can read the history of the man, but the Heart of the Father is to release the unfulfilled destiny of His broken children."

~ Denny Steyne
Mountain of Worship

"Out of defeat can come the best in human nature. As Christians face storms of adversity, they may rise with more beauty. They are like trees that grow on mountain ridges -- battered by winds, yet trees in which we find the strongest wood."

~ Billy Graham
