Ministering In Corporate America

Posted in Prophetic Notes

I had the wonderful privledge of writing this article, back in 2004 for an alumni magazine, and wanted to share it with you all as an encouragement, that if you are currently working in the marketplace and not in a position as minister within the church, that you are still ministering . . . just in a different way.  Allow this article to transform the way we think of ministers into a new dimension of possibility.  We know, because we are living in it.  Let there no longer be boundaries between the church and the workplace.  That is indeed New Testament Living.  Enjoy :-)

“Walking In The Marketplace Anointing”

by Kelly (KSM), copyrighted  2004-2006

Suppose you had the chance to travel around the nation and see places you could only dream of, people you thought you’d never see, and minister to people you thought you’d never minister to?  The finances are taken care of and it is simply your responsibility to listen closely to the voice of the Lord – going where He calls you to go.  Your call is not that of a normal missionary, yet the goal is the same: (Isaiah 61:1-3) “He hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; to appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that HE might be glorified.”  This is the call of every believer, in Christ Jesus, and this is the call of the corporate minister.

It is 8 a.m. on a Monday morning, 2004, and you are in an important meeting with two Senior Vice President’s and other executive staff members of one of the largest banking institutions in America.  You are one of their core team members. Strategies are made and solutions expedited. In the next hour an employee asks to speak with you about a very important matter, so you reserve a conference room. While there you hear about a personal situation that is effecting their work. A pending divorce, lost hopes and dreams, and a family hanging in the balance.  They don’t know where to turn and who to go for help.  The husband is Buddhist and the wife is Catholic and their two faiths are colliding .  You gently reassure this employee that there is hope and that they are not alone in what they are experiencing, and ask if you can meet in the evening to encourage them further.  You are careful what you say, due to corporate liabilities, but know that you are to love and encourage them, bearing their burden as a mentor and friend.  Another day a fellow worker pulls you aside and confides that he has just been diagnosed with a life-threatening disease. He is significantly depressed, and has been commuting between Arizona and Minnesota for work,  going weeks without seeing his wife and family for support.  You console him and ask if you can meet in a nearby restaurant for dinner. It is there you are able to freely share the love of the Lord with this man.  Suddenly, the anointing of the Lord fills the corner of restaurant where you are sitting, and His word is able to come forth; you are simply the vessel from which it flows. Your co-worker gets goosebumps and states that he has never experienced such hope and encouragement before, and you counsel him to pursue a personal relationship with the Lord.  It doesn’t matter what denomination, background, title, position or religion these worker’s carry, they’ve just had a taste of what it means to be comforted by the Lord God Almighty, and they want more!

God is strategically positioning and restoring many of His people within the corporate world and marketplace, giving them access into the hidden chambers of strategy, to influence the kings of this world; introducing them to the King of Kings and Lord of Lord’s. They will leap walls and fences of present day doctrines to open the eyes of the spiritually blind within the executive world.  For it says in Philippians  2:10-11 (KJV),  “Every knee should bow . . .  and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.”  The titans, kings, icons, strategists of the corporate world, will one day have to declare that Jesus Christ is Lord!  Many believer’s disqualify themselves from this positioning within the world because, perhaps this area has been a bit of a taboo.  Ventures within business may have previously been equated with greed, compromise in value, faithlessness and hunger for personal power. That is all changing! Many will see the favor of the Lord as they move into new realms of ministry outside the confines of traditional church.  Moving where He calls them to move, and going where He calls them to go as corporate missionaries, and apostles invading the secular realm.  Jesus role modeled this by reaching multitudes outside the confines of the religious systems of his day, so think it not strange when we start seeing signs, wonders and spiritual gifts being stirred up in the marketplace – taking church to new places.  Employees who would never step foot in a church, and who may be imprisoned within their own towers of prestige and power will see those artificial walls crumble as God meets them, in their place of work.  It is all part of His great commission to “go into ALL the world and preach the gospel to every creature (Mark 16:16).

We have had the wonderful opportunity to see God move in the corporate marketplace firsthand and are humbled, and in awe of God’s provision, as He allows us to walk in His destiny for us as corporate ministers.  It has been a tremendous blessing to live in several different states in The US:  New York, Texas, Connecticut, and now Minnesota.  Each time a job promotion and transfer, with a new physical and spiritual mission; new people to meet and minister the love of God.

We want to encourage you that no matter where you have been called to minister, whether it encompass the boundaries of traditional ministry or not, God is more than able to qualify you and provide for that which He has called you to do.    It is imperative that we do not limit Him by our titles, societal standing, education, doctrines and traditions, as we boldly step into the marketplace ministry.

thanks for posting this. It always amazes me how quickly we forget the importance of ministering where God has placed us as if our current position, simply because we are not called to be Minister's of the Word (or Minister's wives), some how is not worth as much and therefore we can afford to slack.

Kelly is spunky, very unconventional at times, fun to talk with, my best friend, and an incredible Mom and mentor to our dd. She is not afraid to lovingly hear from and tell people the truth when it is required, and is a true covenant friend. She is passionate about her relationship with the Lord, justice and righteousness, and you may see that in our blog. She loves people deeply, and sometimes gets hurt because of it - wearing her heart on her sleeve. Hearing her talk on the phone, laugh and have fun with her friends always makes me grin from the other room. She has great JOY!

"The truth is, if we claim Christ, we are never justified in being unkind, cold, indifferent, or cruel. Even if true serious sin needs to be addressed or dealt with, it should be in love, and love is kind, gentle, long-suffering, it seeks to elevate others, it is hopeful, assumes the best, etc. .."

~ Jen Igarashi in her post from June 14th, 2007 "I Wanna Be A Buffalo"

"As parent educators, we need to embrace a new notion of learning. We need to help the child discern the Lords will and equip him to answer his particular call. It is the heart and soul of the child we want to touch. For our purposes, we need to engage the heart in order to effectively educate the child. Our vision of a well-educated child is a child who has a heart for learning, a child who has the tools he needs to continue to learn for a lifetime and the love to want to do it."

~ Edith Stein

"A blessed thing it is for any man or woman to have a friend, one human soul whom we can trust utterly, who knows the best and worst of us, and who loves us in spite of all our faults."

~ Charles Kingsley

"Knowing the past about a person doesn't make us prophetic, but calling them into their future does! The question has never been, "Can we read the history of a man?" The question has always been, "Can we restore the future of a man?" Anyone can read the history of the man, but the Heart of the Father is to release the unfulfilled destiny of His broken children."

~ Denny Steyne
Mountain of Worship

"Out of defeat can come the best in human nature. As Christians face storms of adversity, they may rise with more beauty. They are like trees that grow on mountain ridges -- battered by winds, yet trees in which we find the strongest wood."

~ Billy Graham
