Hopkinsville Community College would like to make the area home school association families aware of opportunities for senior-level students to take college courses at HCC (dual enrollment). In some cases scholarships are available (one class per semester) to encourage students to get a jump start on their college coursework. HCC counselors/admissions advisors are available weekdays on a walk-in basis. The student affairs offices are open daily 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with late evening service until 6:30 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays as a convenience to busy families. Our financial aid officers are also available as a valuable resource for college planning.

Often, high school students do not take advantage of college-level course offerings simply because they do not realize that HCC is an open admissions institution. It is my intention in this posting to welcome home school students to HCC and let them know that the community college has much to offer. Typically, students may be admitted to HCC the summer prior to their senior year of high school (usually age 17 at a minimum). While HCC does not have an “entrance” examination per se, ACT or SAT or COMPASS (placement test administered by HCC) scores are required so that HCC counselors/advisors may have the necessary tools to place students in courses where they have the most opportunity for success. Having scores from the ACT or SAT or COMPASS is most helpful in determining recommended placement in math, English and reading courses.

HCC's website can be a valuable resource to prospective students. There, you may find the application for admission, a list of programs offered, scholarship application, an updated listing of courses available, and much more. Please let me know how HCC might be of assistance to your families.
