Washington Times Op-ed—Outstanding Results on National Tests Rapidly growing in numbers, homeschoolers once again show they excel academically. Read more >> 2. Homeschoolers Beat National Average on ACT Recently, ACT published its results for 2009. On a scale of 1–36, homeschoolers scored an average of 22.5, which beat the national average of 21.1. “This is a remarkable achievement and shows that homeschool parents are successfully preparing their children for college,” said Michael Smith, president of Homeschool Legal Defense Association. Florida: At First, Family Denied Health Insurance Coverage A member family asked HSLDA for assistance when the husband’s employer denied health insurance coverage to their homeschooled high school son. Mexico: El Hogar Educador Conference a Great Success Homeschooling continues to expand in Mexico as evidenced by the growth in attendance and support of the annual El Hogar Educador conference. College Christian Study Groups Highlight Cultural Impact Inspired by the example of William Wilberforce, Christian Study Groups at Patrick Henry College this fall semester will focus on the nitty-gritty of culture-changing. This week, homeschool graduates and one of HSLDA’s high school coordinators share the pros and cons of dual enrollment options. Coming up on @home e-vents On Tuesday, September 8 at 9:00 p.m (ET), join Dr. James Stobaugh for help with planning your students’ high school program. Dr. Stobaugh recognizes that this challenge can be daunting—the problem is not a shortage of choices, but rather an over-abundance of good choices! Dr. Stobaugh explains how you can craft an educational curriculum that will make the high school years fruitful and productive for your students. After counseling thousands of homeschooling families over the past 23 years, HSLDA attorney Chris Klicka, homeschooling father of seven children, gives down-to-earth encouragement to stay the course.
