slim good health

Dear Sir or Madam:

Good day!  I am writing today to ask for your help in reaching homeschoolers to let them know about a upcoming educational opportunity.

Slim Goodbody, the costumed “health crusader” who appeared for years on Captain Kangaroo and PBS, will be performing in ....

  • Lexington, KY on 03/26/07 at the Singletary Center for the Arts at 10 am.
  • Louisville, KY on 03/27/07 at the Memorial Auditorium at 10 am.

Slim will be presenting “Bodyology”, a show for children in grades K-4. Correlated to state health education standards, Bodyology uses music, movement, fanciful props, and a large rear screen projection unit to lead youngsters on an incredible journey within.  It provides an opportunity for audiences to understand how their bodies work, and inspires them to be the best they can be.  I have attached a pdf with more information.

Here are a couple of reviews of Bodyology by homeschoolers:

It's a great field trip for those with younger children.  Probably appropriate for those up to around 12 years old.  If the kids are much older than that, it may seem a little too 'childish', but to be honest, I caught myself humming a few of his tunes on the way home myself! :) Btw, I booked my tickets on-line at their web site and they sent us some information ahead of time and had our name on a list when we got there. Very easy to do.

Kathy Granger, Homeschooler- Central Georgia Christian Home Educators

We LOVED the show!!  I took my 8 year old son and my 12 year old son (even though the program is recommended for grades K-4).  The 12 year old enjoyed it as much as my 8 year old.  The show held our attention well.  It was entertaining and educational at the same time.  It's one of the best productions we have seen in a while. Thanks for making such a quality show available to homeschooling families.

Jennifer Loper, Homeschooler –PEACH of Green County Ohio

I’m sure you’ll agree that learning about health is a crucial part of the educational process. If you can help us spread the word about the show, we would be grateful.

Tickets are $6.00 and you can book online at our website: www.slimgoodbody.com.

Thank you for your time and attention.  Please feel free to email me with questions or suggestions on how to spread the word to other homeschoolers. You can also call me at 800-962-7546.

Sincerely,

Kyle Metcalf

Tour Director, Slim Goodbody Corp.

Piano Lessons

My name is Judith Zinner in Lousiville Ky and I am a member of Southeast Chrisitian Church. I am wanting to find homeschool students for piano lessons. I am a christian and have been teaching for 10 years. My concern now is that my children are in school and I mostly teach when they are out of school. I would like to spend time with them when they are home but would like to be able to teach more children during the days.

Sincerely,
Judith Zinner

Homeschool group to perform .........

Hi Lori,

Could you send this out a couple of times this week?

The MacMillan kids’ band ‘For Heaven’s Sake’ is performing on Saturday at 7PM at Julia’s Books and Gift in Lexington on Southland Ave across from Good Foods Co-op. Channel 27 in Lexington (TV station) called this week to schedule them on July 7 for their noon show. They will be sending out a camera crew to film part of the performance at the bookstore. The kids have never had a ‘concert’ before. With the summer season, etc, there may not be many people there.  We’d love good turn out for this event. Please come out and support the kids if you’re available.

Thanks,

The MacMillans

water quatlity training

I just wanted to let you know about this opportunity.  A Water Watch Training Event is going to take place on Saturday, April 8th at 9:30 am at the Cooperative Extension Service Winchester.  Lajuanda Haight-Maybriar will be instructing the course.  Kentucky Water Watch recruits volunteers to conduct a number of water quality tests to determine the health of streams. The data collected by the volunteers is used to help develop plans to enhance the streams for fishing, swimming, wildlife habitat and drinking water supply.   The sampling season usually consists of 3 sampling events spaced throughout the “recreation season”.   The sampling events for this year are scheduled for May 14th, July 9th, and September 9th.  Dissolved oxygen, pH, turbidity, temperature, and conductivity are routinely measured.  If you or someone you know would like to “Adopt-A-Stream”, please attend the training event on April 8th.  Also, please forward this information to any other interested people.

Thank you,

Shanda

Calligraphy classes

Greetings!

I am a professional tutor who specializes in English tutoring, ESL, and test
preparation.  I'm not sure if any members of your organization would be
interested in English tutoring, but perhaps you may know of some parents who
are seeking foreign language tutoring for their children.  My wife is the
only licensed Japanese calligraphy instructor in the Lexington area who
offers courses.

Prices are very reasonable, starting at $35 per month for Japanese writing
in pencil, and $40 per month for Japanese calligraphy - using a brush.  The
prices are for one lesson per week, or four lessons per month.

Japanese writing and calligraphy lessons are offered Tuesday to Friday, 2:30
PM - 9:00 PM, and Saturday 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM.
English tutoring is offered Tuesday to Friday, 10:00 AM - 9:00 PM, and
Saturday 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM.

If you know of anyone who might be interested, I'd appreciate it if you
could pass on this information.

Tree Planting

Dear Homeschoolers,

Hello.  Thanks for letting me send this information to you.  I work with the Strodes Creek Conservancy.  The Conservancy is affiliated with the City of Winchester.  Our purpose is to clean-up Strodes Creek, which has its headwaters in Clark County.  Our stream is "listed" on the 303(d) list of impaired waters and is impacted for pathogens, nutrients, siltation, and low dissolved oxygen.  As part of mitigation for urban impacts to streams, we are focusing on planting trees throughout the watershed.  As you know, trees provide a tremendous benefit to streams.  We have a two spring planting events planned.  They are Friday, March 17th from 12:30 until 5 and Saturday from 10-1.  We will be planting on Barnes Drive in WinchesterBarnes Drive is off of North Main Street.  The Thoroughbred Motel and Clark County Fire Departement are on that street.  We would like to invite you to help us with the project.  All tools will be provided.  Just wear old clothes and we hope to see you there!  If you would like to contact me, my cell phone number is 595-2453.  Please forward this to anyone that might be interested!

Thank you very much,

Shanda P. Cecil
