This is Charlotte Mason's character curriculum written to children to teach morals and self-control.
Volume 4 was written directly to children to help them understand the good and evil tendencies within themselves and their duty to master themselves and obey God.
I keep coming back to this book...to read to myself.
We can't just teach our children morals and self-control without developing it in ourselves.
I have to admit, Ourselves has been on my shelf for years, and I haven't read it! Will have to dig it out. I'm remembering a thick volume, and trying to imagine how to schedule reading the book.
At what age do you think it's appropriate (I mean, how young)?
I read all the comments on 100 Easy Lessons.....that helped a lot. I suppose its like everything else, might have to try it and see how it works for us. If it does, great, if not, thats ok too. I have two that love to read and one that struggles with it and could care less if he ever read again. Maybe a boy thing? I don't know. But I don't want my next son to struggle with it. Certainly don't want to push him either.
Anyway, thanks for helping me with this.
Teaching the Trivium
How can you give your children the tools they need to teach themselves? Long ago students were first taught how to learn. Today, students are taught an encyclopedia of subjects trivia but they are not taught the basic skills of learning: to discover, to reason, and to apply.
