Book of Centuries

Posted in Charlotte Mason
Charlotte Mason's students kept a Book of Centuries.
They added people and events to the pages as they studied about them.
Book of Centuries

My children both have their own book.
They can add any
authors, events, and figures that they are interested in...
besides the historical figures that they learn of during school time.
I use pictures from the internet, copy them and they cut and use 'stickies.'

Thanks for the link to your sunflowers. They are beautiful,

As for your question, we have 2 acres, my brothers land connects to ours in the back. Most of the year it's planted in either corn , cotton or soy beans.

We are busy trying to fill out yard with life! Trees, plants and CHICKENS! A new adventure for us!

We started our book years ago and it has been such a treasure to look over and over. We are thinking of starting a new one for high school since our old one is so full already.

I love your idea.

I like your method of making them the right size. (I'm assuming that's what the chart w/scissors on top of it is for.) Very clever!

We are terrible about following through with the timeline, but I always have great intentions. I think we'll work on ours this afternoon. :)

We already do a timeline, but I think this is a great idea, especially with each child having their own book!

that is a perfect way to do a timeline, each child having their own book. thanks for the idea!!!

My grandma used to make hair ( with a garlic press )and clothes, like you said, and all sorts of crazy things with the gingerbread people. She mailed them across the US to my sisters and I when I was a child -- from NY to CA...and they always came in one piece, surprisingly!

Those books look fabulous! Great job. We currently keep a wall timelines. I had a hard decision whether I wanted to keep that or a notebook.

Thanks for your submission!

Blessings,
Melissa

Your kids have done a great job with their books of centuries! We use a timeline, but after seeing your post I'm thinking we might start a book too. Thanks for the inspiration.

Apr. 20, 2008 - Time for stickers

Posted by MusingMom
I love the format of your BOC. I used 11x17 Bristol board that I comb bound to make a giant BOC with the intention of downloading pictures from the 'net to make stickers. I never seem to have time to make them, though.

Do you print onto labels? Do you keep notes on what people/events to look up? I'd love some suggestions to resurrect our BOC as my kids love adding the stickers into it.

Apr. 21, 2008 - In answer to your question...

About the book of Centuries.
Do you print onto labels? No I copy and paste to a calendar template on word perfect.
It keeps the figures within the same size.
Do you keep notes on what people/events to look up? Usually, on Friday I look back over the week to find whoever we have learned about during history or any historic person that the kids show interest in.
I print out on regular paper, and then they cut and use scrapbook stickies to apply it.
It is really quite simple.
Hope this helps!

Books of Centuries look FAB! :-)

Yes, HK Disney has resorts very nearby. Are you guys planning a trip over??? :-)

Even if not, it's fun to dream, isn't it? We've been dreaming of a family vacation to Switzerland for years now. I don't know if it will ever happen, but it's fun to dream.

Teaching the Trivium

How can you give your children the tools they need to teach themselves? Long ago students were first taught how to learn. Today, students are taught an encyclopedia of subjects – trivia – but they are not taught the basic skills of learning: to discover, to reason, and to apply.

Classical Christian Education

America's public schools are failing. Douglas Wilson lays much of the blame for this situation on the current idea that schools can educate in a moral vacuum. __________________________
