Weekend Movie

Posted in Family Movies
I heard Jenn mention this show a while back.
Anyone familiar with Animal Planet already knows about it.
(I'm late for everything!)
Meerkat Manor is great entertainment.
It's sort of a reality/soap opera show of a Meerkat family.
I borrowed  season 1/disc one from my library.
The complete set shown here is a 13-episode DVD set.
My kids recognized the narrator's voice and name right away...
Sean Astin...you know...Samwise...Lord of the Rings!

May. 5, 2008 - Love those kats!

Aw yes, those lovable Meerkats. It's funny, heart breaking, and very interesting. When I think of them, my life doesn't seem so difficult. I think we watched both seasons that are out on DVD. I may need to check around and see if season 3 is out. I am glad you enjoyed them. I heard about them pretty late myself, but that is usually how it is with me!

A whole unit study on Africa was started with Meerkat Manor at our house. There are several links with other activities you can do on my blog if you want to check them out.

One of the coolest things we did, was we went and saw the desert that the meerkats lived in on Google Earth. I swear, my kids could spend all day looking around Google Earth! It was so cool to see the desert, and the lush lands around south africa... and when you put in your address, it will take you from south africa to your house, so the kids can see how far away that is.... SO much fun!

We just ended the unit on Africa last friday... so sorry if I am a bit jazzed about it. I love learning things with my kids like that! :)

Blessings,

Val
