Sunflower Study

Big son's sunflower seeds are 6 days old and sprouting nicely.
These have been growing for a while longer.
This is a young sunflower, that we have drawn in our journals.
This one was beautiful, when it was younger:
Sunny Nature Sun King

What is usually called the flower is actually a head of numerous flowers (florets) crowded together.
Dissection!
After they dry out...
more seeds for eating and planting.
The Handbook of Nature Study provides us with some great information on our study of sunflowers.

May. 15, 2008 - It is all your fault

Posted by HarmonyArtMom
I am blaming you for the three packets of sunflowers that I have planted this year.....I can't resist after looking at your blog. We branched out with the last packet to a mixed variety so we will have some lovely reddish sunflowers and some mammoth ones too. Sigh. My husband is going to think I've gone sunflower crazy. :) There are worse things than that, huh?

Love your entry,
Barb
