We loved the first movie, and was pleased that there was only a bit of immodest dress in it and felt that it was such a good adventure film--however, my husband and I went to see the second movie and were pretty disappointed with some of the elements.
Although it seems a bit silly to overanalyze it, we were bummed that the main characters were "split up" at the beginning. Another throwaway "modern" relationship. But I guess that is what you have to expect in the movies.
I thought that Ben Gates' character lacked the "intelligent boyishness" that was so indearing in the first one also.
The "oval office" scenes, to us, were very inappropriate for our kids anyhow, and if we ever get a copy you can be sure we will fast forward it through those parts. It was another wild adventure, but just didn't have the charm that the first one had. At least in our humble opinion. :)
We just saw it for the first time this weekend as well. Although I was disappointed in the characters splitting up, and having chosen not to marry but live together... Still, the whole family enjoyed the movie and are hoping there might be a third to look forward to!
Oh...forgot about the oval office scenes...they could have done without that and I agree that it would have been better to have the couple, still together from the start.
I don't expect much from Hollywood...
they often dissapoint me and that is why I don't let broadcast t.v. into my home and I find that the older movies are usually much better than modern movies.
I always see scenes that they could have easily discarded. Having said that, this movie is still pretty innocent and safe and IS fun to watch.
I appreciate all of the comments from other caring parents.
I liked that the long divorced parents found a way to forgive and reconnect. Maybe if we focus on the need to communicate and work through your problems as the focus instead of the need to be right at all costs, kids will see everything can be worked through.
I loved it!
because of Jesus, Bobbie
PS my favorite part was when he reached into the eagle at Mt Rushmore. My daughter was born there and we always told her we picked her out of George Washigton's nose... hee hee! I loved all the riddles too. Boy solving them is something I could never do. And I am dying to know what was on the page the President sent him too.
Oh yes! We love these movies. Just enough suspense for my kids and nothing really objectionable, except the Oval Office part. I appreciate that the film makers have made these films so that families could watch them. They could be so much worse. We do talk about the things in the movie that are against God's law, like living together.

Teaching the Trivium
How can you give your children the tools they need to teach themselves? Long ago students were first taught how to learn. Today, students are taught an encyclopedia of subjects trivia but they are not taught the basic skills of learning: to discover, to reason, and to apply.
