Sep. 11, 2008 Natural History with Jean Henri Fabre
I was first introduced to Jean Henri Fabre thruAmbleside. The Storybook of ScienceThe wonders of plant and animal life told with rare literary charm by Uncle Paul in conversations with three children. Besides such stories as the ants' subterranean city, the spider's suspension bridge, and the caterpillars' processing, he unlocks the mystery behind thunder and lightning, clouds and rain, the year and its seasons, and volcanoes and earthquakes.Read this with your kids...they'll love it!Jean Henri Fabre was a French entomologist and author who was passionate about his work. Here is Jean Henri Fabre's E Museum where you can find out more. Children of Summer by Margaret J. AndersonHenri Fabre (1823-1915) was a famous explorer yet he seldom left his own backyard.he spent his whole life discovering the secrets of the insect world. His home and its surroundings served as his laboratory. his lab assistants were his wife and children. The entire family shared his passion for insects, especially his youngest son, Paul. |

Remember Rock Mountain from aprevious post? The kids have been coming to play and check out the rock hill daily.(It will be gone soon and this lot will be paved.)A passerby informed us, that he thought some teens must have been performing some kind of ritualistic , evil ceremonyhere, because of the rock circle that looked like a bad omen to him. It's funny...that gets assumed before it is assumed that it is just kids playing!I'm reading an interesting book: My kids love being outside and I enjoy time out with them,I've come to believe it's not only benificial to children, but crucial. One easy way to get started is with The Heart of Harmony Green Hour Challenge. |

Feb. 13, 2008 Getting to Know Books
Jan. 2, 2008 Books and the Library
We go to the library often...I mean it! Almost daily! One reason is, that it is less than a 1/2 mile away. We like to walk and ride our bikes. The other reason is that our 'Charlotte's Field' is there, another reason...we love books!I order books (and movies) online throughout the system.Today we went to a different library that we don't go to as often. It is 7.1 miles from home. We have another library that is 4.8 miles from our home.Another one is 8.4 miles away! We've been to seven of the eighteen libraries in our county. It's cheap entertainment!I highly recommend the library to everyone! Home with their treaures! Here's something fun...find out your city's Walk Score. Mine is a 43. |
