Believe me when I say...I don't use rewards, especially when it comes to learning.Knowledge is a reward in itself! But, with my newly five year old and teaching phonics...I have made an exception. It's nice to have something to help motivate! He is eager and excited to do phonics when there is a mini M&M for each letter sound made correctly. |

Feb. 18, 2008 Phonics & Magna Doodle
This travel size Magna Doodle is great for teaching phonics. You can erase just the first letter and replace with C, F, H, M, P, R, and S.My new beginning reader is very proud of himself! |

Jan. 31, 2008 Learning To Read
Although this book comes highly recommended by some...I do not like teaching phonics from this book.I confess, that we used it only one week. But, my son and myself got tired of making those VERY slow letter sounds, repeatedly.I am going to teach him, the same way I taught my daughter. It is simple...after learning every letter by sight, you teach them the sound each letter makes.(I am presently here.) I will spend only about ten minutes per day on this. After mastering each letter sound, then you teach them three letter words that rhyme.I have an old 'Hooked on Phonics Level 1 Learn to Read' book that I use, along with flashcards and books.I don't find the audio cassette necessary. Our progress might be slow, but more enjoyable. |
