Nature Study

Once a week, on Fridays,
we learn about something from nature in
Anna Botsford Comstock's
Handbook of Nature Study.
I read to the kids straight out of the book.
They get to catch my amazement and wonder ,
as I learn about something from nature for the first time!
Outdoor Hour Challenge #25 Housefly
Barb over at Handbook of Nature Study
has an Outdoor Challenge posted each week.
This would be a great way for beginners to begin a Nature Study.
But, don't let it stop there!
Each day, there is something outdoors waiting to be explored and discovered.

Math U See

We continue to enjoy Math U See.

We did not start out with Math U See from the very start of homeschooling,

And I found that we needed to backtrack some of what we had already learned, just to really grasp it, before moving on. (Math U See does teach math a little differently.)

Our Math U See schedule:

Mon. Video A. B, C, work page.

Tue.  D, E, F. work pages

Wed. Test, Video, A work page

Thur.  B, C , D  work pages

Fri,  E. F. Test

(Two lessons a week)

They get gum to chew while they do it!

I read that it can improve concentration AND
you can't chew gum in public school...
so CHEW!

I have started my kindergartener out with Primer. He loves doing math like the big kids!

Those manipulatives are fun!

Teaching the Trivium

How can you give your children the tools they need to teach themselves? Long ago students were first taught how to learn. Today, students are taught an encyclopedia of subjects – trivia – but they are not taught the basic skills of learning: to discover, to reason, and to apply.

Classical Christian Education

America's public schools are failing. Douglas Wilson lays much of the blame for this situation on the current idea that schools can educate in a moral vacuum. __________________________
