Goodies!

Posted in Just Thoughts

Well I received a few surprises this week.  Dh had me order some farming DVD's for him Monday night and also a food mill.200-Victorio Strainer The DVD's weren't suppose to be in until Fri but came Wen's morning.  The food mill was listed as out of stock but it came the same day to!   I'm getting all my Birthday and Christmas gifts early this year lol!  Anyway last night Laura got to stay up late with me and we did down half a bushel of apples.  Oh my did it ever go so quickly with this!!  What would normally taken me days of pealing, slicing, cooking and mashing was done in one evening!!  I LOVE it!  And dd is so happy that she can "make" the apple sauce her self.  She turns the handle heehee.  I have a bushel of mac's left to do still.  I'll hopefully get going on that tomorrow and save some of the sauce to make apple butter.  Oh we got 10 quart jars from the half bushel, plus a huge bowl full for each of us to eat.

Yesterday dh came home early from work, his back was hurting him badly.  We are both fighting a virus and I woke up with a pinch in my back this morning.
But we made it out shopping anyway.  I picked up Rachel's birthday gift.  It's so hard to belive she'll be 1 in a few weeks!  Then I hit two different dollar stores and stocked up on activity books.  I found the paint with water books, sticker books, coloring books etc.  I'm making up activity boxes as Christmas presents for the girls.  I also got each a harmonica and a tamberean and recorder.  Note to self a box of ear plugs for Mommy and Daddy lol.  I know they will love these as the love music and crafts!  I also found some nice winter themed mugs.  They will make great gifts with drink mixes and such.  Oh yes I found a few cook books in there to and got two for me and as gifts.  Yes I caved I collect cook books.
Did the grocery shopping, boy the stores are packed today!  The bulk store was OUT of eggs and yoghurt and wont have more for a few weeks....So I'll have to get them else were.  Dh is taking me to the health food store tomorrow.  I need to pick up some natural sugar, cod liver oil, glucoamean (sp??) and yoghurt.

So a good bit of my Christmas shopping is done.  How are you all coming along?  Have you started yet?  Are you making gifts this year?  I'm working on some crochet and sewn items to.

I will probably crochet a few items but I will do a lot of ordering from the GVS catalog which is a Mennonite owned business. They have lots of fun goodies like children's books, sewing items, toys, tapes, etc.
Sounds like you will be very busy this Christmas season. Have a great Thanksgiving.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I'm going to add you to my friends list as well. I never thought of getting a hand mill for making applesauce. I always do it by had, peeling, coring, cooking all that fun stuff. When you put the apples in to grind them do you put them in whole? If you do is there a screen or something that seperates out all of the seeds and chunkier stuff? I've been trying to get my hands on a used electric grain mill but so far haven't had any luck finding one and the new ones are so darn expensive : )
Blessings,

What I do is cut the apples in qourters (don't peel or seed, just wash them). Cook until soft then scoop them into hte hopper and crank the handle. They are pushed through a screen, the sauce comes out one side into a bowl the seeds, peels etc. come out the other end into a diffrent bowl. Works great!!
