I was searching for something and came across this funny blog post. Since I'm schooling with a 5 and 3 year old and a 22 month old and a newborn it gave me a giggle. |

I found this nice site this afternoon. It's called Wordsmyth. It has many vocabulary helps, one that I really like is you can make your own customized glossary! |

![]() Less Of Me~More Of Him is hosing a homeschool open house, until Aug. 15 with great prizes to! Here is our entry.
We have 4 girls ages 5, 3, 20 months, and newborn. While we've really been teaching them since birth. I started more formal schooling last year with our oldest. Last year a friend told me about the book Teaching the Trivium. I'm so glad I read that! It both brought freedom and challenges to our homeschool. Freedoms from thinking I had to follow a boxed curriculum and challenges to dig deeper into literature and languages.
Our schedule is fairly relaxed but we do try to be done by noon. But if we are a little behind I'll use the afternoon to do the FIAR activities. Breakfast is 7:30 to 8:00, then we have 30 minutes of clean up time. Lessons start at 9am. We start with writing practice/copywork, then grammar and reading, then math, Five in a Row reading/activates. We also plan to do history 3 days a week and science 2 days a week.
We do most of our work at the kitchen table and curled up on the couch. The perfect place to hold/nurse a baby and read to everyone!
I have two corners of the kitchen set up for storing school stuff. One of our art easels is set up there, its a chalk board on one side and a dry erase board/magnet board on the other. Beside that is a large drawered storage bin. It holds tubs of drawing supplies, coloring books, play dough, and other art supplies.
On the other side of the kitchen there is a small corner shelf that holds my magazine racks with our in use work books and notebooks. Under the shelf is another drawered bin, this has things the kids can't use without me lol. Bottles of paint, clay etc.

Well this morning I went to take out the cloth I had across the top of the butterfly terrarium. I figured by now they would be large enough not to get through the little vent holes lol. Well surprise! Over night a lot of them started to make chrysalis! They have attached them selves to the cloth with the little silk button. The ones starting to do this look like a hook shape.

Here are a few photos of our little painted lady caterpillars. The kit I ordered comes with a terrarium, and little containers to keep the caterpillars in. I decided in stead of having one or two caterpillars in the tiny little cups to put them all in the terrarium now. It's much easier to see! Also they LOVE to eat thistle leaves. I pick 3 or 4 large ones each day for them.

I recently was given a chance to review a lapbook unit from Hands Of A Child. Thank you again! I picked Anglo-Saxons, since it I've always loved that time era.
I was very impressed with the details of the unit kit. There is a good overview of history there, no need to do extra research unless you really want to. That is a huge help to busy Mom's or though's like my self that are under the weather at the moment. Covering areas from immigration, food, religion, farming to famous Anglo Saxons. Also included is a comprehensive vocabulary list, I even learned some new words! There are 28 activities ranging in topic from creating a time period menu, to early defense, and building types.
While this unit is geared for grades 3 to 8, I think many of the activities could easily be adapted for my younger children. I look forward to trying this out with them after the holidays, and will share photos of the finished projects.
