Woohoo! I fixed my dishwasher! It's been broken since yesterday. I've let the dishes pile up in the hope that "when I get a few minutes" I'd take a look at it. A couple of months ago it did the same thing: filled with water, and then just hummed. No washing, no draining. So I called a repairman, who checked for clogs, then opened the "innards" underneath the appliance. He reached in, then stood up, turned the dishwasher on, and...presto. Worked like a charm. I asked him what he touched underneath to make it work, but he said he couldn't tell me because it would put me in danger of being shocked (electrically, that is). So I paid the man and sent him on his way.
Then yesterday it stopped after filling with water. Same symptoms. I finally took a look at it tonight, and followed all the same steps Mr. Repairman did. Then when I got the bottom panel off and slid to my stomach to "take a look," all I saw was a few goofy looking boxes, a lot of dust, and a LOT of wires. (By the way, I DID turn the breaker off first!) My husband had been watching and asked me, "What are you looking for... a big red button?" I had to admit that, well, yes. That was exactly what I was looking for! No such luck. I looked for a few minutes, then he took a gander. Nothing. So I went to my beloved internet and found this site. Read the blogs for the same kind of dishwasher I have, and found my simple solution.
Eureka! Dishwasher noises! And my sweet husband congratulated me with a, "You Da Man!"
