• Oct. 10, 2005 - Self Discipline Takes a Holiday

On my profile I listed quilting as one of my interests.  At the time I wrote that, I was in the beginning stages of learning to quilt; I had purchased the cloth, started to cut out the simple 10 inch patches and then felt overwhelmed because I was told the squares had to be perfect.  I don't do perfect.  Ask my husband.  Ask my children.  Ask Dawn.  She'll tell you!  Anyhow, now my project sits where I left it two weeks ago, except now my neighbor who is helping me learn, has loaned me her tools to use to cut out the squares.  And yet, they all sit there, accusing me.  Detail-oriented tasks used to be do-able before the brain cell die-off. (post-little ones-you know!)  Now, when I can finally hear myself think at night, the last thing I want to do is attempt a project which demands perfection.  Maybe next week-it should be getting colder and I might be more motivated then since the quilt is for my bed.  Here's hoping that I will buckle down soon and exercise a little self discipline!

LOL!

Motivation. Hmmm. How's this for motivating ~ someday can teach your very "domestic craft illiterate" friend to quilt, so mine as well start now! ;) giggle I hear you dear. I took up scrapbooking (under family pressure before Hannah was born) and found I hated it. I mean, yeah, it's wonderful once it's DONE, but doing it....too much thinking, detail and paper everywhere. It was a pain. But OH! I WANNA LEARN DOMESTIC ARTS! I wanna teach my children. I wanna do knitting, needlework, crochet, sewing.....aaagh. Dreams. All dreams.

Anyway...don't let those blocks of fabric accuse you. Put em in a drawer or a box and hide em. I always feel better when I can't see my projects. Unfortunately, it doesn't work as well with housecleaning, laundry or ironing. SIGH.

Hugs to all of you!

About Me

While I find homeschooling a struggle more often than not, I am grateful to be able to be with my children every day, seeing how the Lord is growing them in knowledge. My prayer is to learn to enjoy them more, to show them how glad I am to be home with them and to be used of God to educate them in academics, homemaking and in the Word.
