Don’t Forget to Vote!

Written by Sprittibee on November 16, 2008 – 9:43 am -

Don’t forget to vote for your favorite homeschool blogs before midnight (in your time zone) on Friday night this week! The polls are set to close automatically and we’ll hopefully have winners listed on Saturday the 22nd. We realize that there are many who have had a few issues with getting in their votes due to network and poll problems, so feel free to go to a friend’s home or the library to get that last category taken care of or to vote entirely if your PC at home is not cooperating. We are sorry for the inconveniences - and are well aware of them because even some of our own members have the same issues. Don’t let that stop you from casting your vote!

Good luck to all the homeschool-friendly mamas and dads out there who were nominated. We treasure your contribution to the homeschool blogosphere and look forward to getting to know all those we didn’t know before! Regardless of who wins, I know my blogroll just got fatter! How about you???

In Him,

Youth Essay Competition on Corruption to Close 15 March 2007

Greetings

It would be great to see this competition swamped with entries from Home Educators, from all over the world, especially from a Biblical Worldview.

Title: Youth Essay Competition on Corruption to Close 15 March 2007

Submissions for the 2007 international youth essay competition on
corruption, organized by the World Bank and the Norwegian Ministry of
Foreign Affairs for youth of all countries in the world, will close on March
15. The essay competition is open to students and non-students alike, aged
18-25. Students enrolled in Ph.D. courses are, however, not eligible to
participate. The essay can be written in any of three
languages: English, French and Spanish. Read more at:

The American Mathematics Contest

Posted in Competitions

Hey folks, please read the following announcement from Dr Fred Worth and do what you can to publicize this opportunity.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==

I would like to encourage all state and provincial homeschool organizations throughout the U.S. and Canada to make homeschoolers aware of a wonderful opportunity.  The American Mathematics Competitions (AMC), run by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), is a fantastic chance for students to participate in an exciting, challenging and enjoyable mathematics contest.  Information about the test can be found at http://www.unl.edu/amc/.

Students who do particularly well on the tests will be invited to participate in the American Invitational Mathematics Exam, the USA Mathematical Olympiad, and potentially the Mathematical Olympiad Summer Program and the International Mathematics Olympiad. But even if your students aren't likely to be one of the top scorers in the nation, this test gives them the opportunity to be challenged and, hopefully, get excited about mathematics.

Some homeschoolers already participate but I would love to see more homeschoolers involved in this activity.  Contact the AMC office at amcinfo@maa.org. The MAA and the AMC are eager to do everything possible to encourage any students, be they public, private, parochial or home schooled, to participate.

So, again, please pass this information on to your local support groups or mention it in newsletters.  The AMC folks could even provide you with fliers that could be distributed at your state conventions.

God Bless,

Fred
