Kristi's Kwips

Sep. 11, 2008 - "School" cancelled due to...INTEREST!

Due to much begging and an increased interest level, I decided to keep "real school" in my Mom's Bag of Tricks.  We've got to keep a couple of things in there!!  Bubba promised that he would do better.  I talked to a friend of mine at church who happens to teach 3rd grade in public school.  She said that she uses a ticket system.  Now, we have tried that around here before without much success, but I'm always up to try something new.  How is works is this...Bubba is given an assignment and an amount of time that he has to complete it.  If he completes it in the time frame given, he gets a ticket.  If he doesn't, he owes me a ticket.  Each ticket is valued at a nickel.  This is going to be in lieu of allowance for us.

We had been having issues with time other than in school:  bathtime, pajamas, eating, etc.  Now I just give an amount of time and a number of tickets.  You would not believe how much better things are going.  School is no longer a fight.  I have not raised my voice for him to do his work all week.  I haven't even had to remind him to keep on task.  In fact, he is getting things done in record time.  He doesn't get all the tickets.  Sometimes I make allowances because something turned out to be harder for him than I thought it would or because he watched his little sister for me.  But for the most part, I'm sticking to my guns and I think he respects the program (and me!) for it.  Who would have thought?!?

Hugs!
Kristi

Sep. 12, 2008 - It's okay...

Hey Christi~ We encourage everyone to do their posts sooner but you have until Monday of the following week before it's 'late'. Real school sounds terrible to me. Hope you enjoyed it and that it worked.

Way back in my early HSing days, I attended a HS conference and listened to Louise House tell about her bean method.. one bean in the jar for bad behaviour means the kids owe her 5 cents.. and they earned nickels by doing chores.
