Our Bible verse for the week was Proverbs 6:6
Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise.
It’s interesting, well actually, just something to note is that God knew (He’s the Creator after all) that all worker ants are female, and hence the “consider HER ways”
Our studies this week centered around animals, Annemieke’s favorite subject. We read about various jobs of people working with animals like a zoo keeper, vet, game warden etc. We also read about how animals are used by people for entertainment and study like in the circus, hunting and taxidermy. We started learning about how the Animal Kingdom is divided into Vertebrates (animals with a backbone) and Invertebrates (animals without backbones).Vertebrates are subdivided into classes of animals like Mammals, Birds, Fish, Reptiles and Amphibians etc and Invertebrates are subdivided into classes like crustaceans, insects, worms, spiders etc.
Mieke also wrote an animal alphabet with each letter of the alphabet. She also drew her favorite animal (a lion on that particular day :-) and had to finish a sentence “I Love animals...” and she wrote “because they are cute”
For health we discussed safety around animals, in particular dogs and snakes. And for a field trip we went to the pet store to look at reptiles and other animals:-) This of course was a real treat to little Mieke who are absolutely crazy about animals.
This week in math she learned to do multi-digit subtraction (without borrowing) and on Friday she scored 15/15 on her test.
We continued our study in Language Arts and started and finished lesson 22 this week. The spelling words in LLATL were: learn, early, heard & here.
On Monday Mieke went to MAFA and they learned about life after the Revolutionary War and the constitution and government. In Art they studied a painting named Watson and the Shark from John Singleton Copley. In music they listened to some selections by Chopin and in drama they learned about blocking. They also practiced some lines from their play.
