Kuhl Konnections

Sep. 30, 2008 - Our new little one is....

We found out last week that Jonathan Scott will be joining us in March.  We will now have 2 boys and 2 girls and are so happy.  Our family will be complete with an even number.

I have decided today that I have had enough with not being orginized.  I had a close friend joke that she was going to come for a whole day and help me clean and go through stuff and to be honest I would love it if someone would.  I am so overwelmed by my house right now that I have no clue where to begin.  Right now I am working on getting stuff ready for a big consigment sale this weekend but next week we are going to put a hold on almost everything and clean and orginize.

Sep. 15, 2008 - changes

Alot of changes today.  The homeschool co-op we were at is not a good fit for our family so we quit that.  We are going to hopefully go to another co-op but if not thats ok too.
Also, I saw something today at work that makes me think I will not have a job much longer.  I cried most the morning but now I am trying to be positive.  We were going to run into issues with Alex's work schedule soon so that will work better now.

Sep. 12, 2008 - just can't get in the routine

I am having the hardest time getting into our school year this year.  In fact no one has been really into it.  I know we need to get better but we are just so busy with life in general that school takes a back seat.  I really need to work on that and also on keeping up with my cleaning.

Sep. 6, 2008 - rainy day

We are having a lazy rainy day.  The girls and I both took 2 hour naps.  In fact it is almost 4 and the girls are still asleep.  I really need to get some laundry and cleaning done today.

I was going to start homeschool this week but still don't have the books.  I guess we will start and use what we have and just add subjects as we have the money to buy the books.  We did start co-op this week.  Alex is taking English Lit and Becca pre-k.  I don't want to make a rash decision so I am going to wait until after a few more to make up my mind but so far I am thinking this will be our only year doing this one.  I don't like it so far.

Aug. 10, 2008 - Our big news and other ramblings

Have you ever heard the saying "To hear God laugh tell him your plans"?  Well God is laughing right now.  After chasing a very very active Maddie around on what was supposed to be a vacation I decided that 3 kids is the right amount for us.  Well, we get home from vacation and find out that the fourth and final members of the Kuhl family will be here in Late Feb.  AHHHHH!!!!!!!!

We have some family members that are not happy at all about it.  My opinion is what business is it of theirs?  Yes, they have to buy more Christmas and Birthday presents.  Oh well Big deal.  Don't buy me a gift then if buying my children a gift is such a huge issue.  I would understand a bit if my Dad wasn't happy about it because we live with him and there will be 7 of us in a 4 bedroom house.  But he is fine with it.  It is other relatives that are being rude.

I hate having sick kids.  Both the girls are sick and it sucks.  Plus I can't stand the smell of puke or the diapers because I'm still dealing with some morning/all day sickness.  I really hope they feel better soon.

Alex starts rodeo in 3 weeks.  Or at least that is when his first rodeo is.  He might end up going to bull riding school that weekend instead.  He really needs to go to aschool so he can ride better and actually get his 8 seconds.

Jul. 25, 2008 - It's been awhile

Sorry for not updating for so long.
We had a great vacation in Milwaukee.  After the reunion was over we got to spend a day with the School Family in Appleton Wi.  They live on a farm and we had a great time.  Alex got to do chores like feed the steers, milk the goats and other stuff and loves it.  Becca and Maddie just loved having all that open space to run around in.  We hope to visit them again sometime.

Jun. 23, 2008 - Proud of Alex

I am so proud of Alex. He had state finals for rodeo 2 weeks ago and made it to nationals!!!!!!!!!! Now that said he didn't make it for bull riding. He made it for chute dogging which is steer wrestling without the horse. He only did chute dogging the last 2 rodeos so that he could get some practice in before next year. Out of the 5 times he did it he only got it down 1 time. So we aren't going to go to Nationals. I can't justify driving/flying to New Mexico for that.

We also had his "school" pictures done a few weeks ago at picture people. They turned out awesome. He looks like a young man in them, you can even see his very light mustache and gotee (he will starting to shave soon I think). They are using 1 of them in their store. I need to stop by and look to see if it's up. I think Walt has them scanned so I can post them later.

I think he has really matured in the past couple of months. He is still a teenager who drives me crazy but he is starting to really become a young man.

Also he had his testing last week for 8th grade. He tested on a mid-high school level in both Math and Reading and a 6th grade level in spelling. He has a learning disability so that sorta explains the spelling but we are really going to work hard on it this year. But I am so proud that he is that much ahead in reading and math.

Jun. 3, 2008 - It's summertime

It is finally summertime around here.  We bought a new slip n slide last week and gotit out this morning for about 30 min.  Alex and Becca both loved it.  Maddie liked it as long as the water didn't get her face wet.

I have also decided to stop dressing like a teenager and finally dress like a mom.  I went and bought 3 shirts at Kmart last week.  They are plain polos but they are better than my tshirts with jeans/skirts I have been wearing.  I didn't buy too many because I am still really trying to lose about 75 pounds.  So hopefully I will be buying smaller shirts in the near future.

I have an interview at 2 pm at Dutch Wonderland for a postion as a part time EMT.  I really hope I get this job.  I would get in free to DW and HersheyPark then.

Jun. 1, 2008 - Well I tried

I am in a weight loss challange with my moms group and am not doing well at all.  I am 1 pound over what I started.  I have been trying to do some exercise everyday.  Today I decided to use the bike trailer that I bought many years ago to use with Alex.  I hauled it up from the shed and then had to pump up the tires on it.

Once I got both girls in and buckled in we were off.  We went up and down our street 2 times.  I had stopped in our yard to see why the one tire was rubbing and it popped.  So I guess there goes my bike riding ideas for a few days until we get a new tire tube.

May. 28, 2008 - It's been awhile

It has been almost a month so I last posted.  Sorry about that.

It has been a busy month.  Alex had 2 rodeos and did ok at both.  The Multi State was at the Farm Show Building.  He didn't get his 8 seconds but didn't get hurt too bad either.  We drove to Hustontown PA this weekend.  It was off the PA turnpike about 2 hours west of us.  Saturday he got 8 seconds but touched the bull so it didn't count.  Sunday he didn't get 8 seconds.  He tried chute dogging this weekend also.  Saturday he left go too early and Sunday he got the steer down in 22 seconds which was 2nd place.  Now that he is in 2 events it makes the rodeos a little less borning.  It also helps that we now are getting to know some of the other kids so we cheer for them too.

This month has been busy for the rest of us too.  I went ot the CHAP convention in Harrisburg and had fun.  I got a few things for homeschooling and know a little more what we are doing for next year.  I got to listen to some great speakers.

We are done with school for the year, YIPPEEEEEE!!!!!!  I love homeschooling but the last month is so hard everyone is ready to be done.  Now I am starting to plan for next year.  I just asked Alex and he said he would like to start again in July and do a couple days a week over the summer.  So I have about 6 weeks to plan and buy what we are doing next year.

May. 2, 2008 - Tupperware

Well, I am selling Tupperware now.  I really needed to find something to do to make money and spend the least amount of time away from my family.

So if you need any Tupperware please let me know!

May. 1, 2008 - 9 years

Yesterday was 9 years since my mom died. I didn't realize the date till last night. That is a good thing because I am usually very depressed all day. I want to go put carnations on her grave sometime in the next week or so. Carnations were her favorite flower.

I really miss her. She never saw her granddaughters and she would have loved them so much. She also would have been so proud of the way Alex had grown up.

Mom never meet Walt either. We started dating a year after she died. I think she would like him.

I wish mom could see what a good mom and person I am. I was only 21 when she died and my teen years were filled with arguments with her. I hope she would be proud of me.

It sorta hurts that no one in my family said anything to yesterday. It is always a very hard day for me, maybe they didn't want me to remember.

Now that I am sitting here crying I think I better end this entry.  Just do me a favor, if your mom is still alive, go tell her you love her.

Apr. 29, 2008 - He finally did it

Alex finally got his 8 seconds!!!!!!!!  The bad news is that he touched the bull so it didn't count.  He was so funny, he slid to the side but he was hanging in like crazy.

We also got to visit some family while we were in the Pittsburgh area.  We visited my cousins John and Lil and then my Uncle Butch and Aunt Sue.  John is both a cousin and an uncle to me.  His Mom and my Mom's  Bio Dad were married so that makes him my step uncle but his mom and my  Bio grandma were sisters so it makes him also my moms cousin.  If you can follow that you deserve chocolate.  Both of my mom's biological parents are dead.  They died a few years ago.  I never really considered them my grandparents because my mom was adopted and raised by a wonderful wonderful women who was my Grammy and she will always be my grammy.  But it was nice to meet them and get to know atleast my bio Grandpa.  I am very glad that I have meet and have a relationship with the rest of the family.  I know see some of my mom's personality in them.  They are great people and have welcomed me with open arms.  I think I am the oldest grandchild but I have no clue.  Between half, step and adopted siblings Mom had over 30 siblings.  I know of atleast 10 that were also given up for adoption and I have meet 2 of them.

Apr. 21, 2008 - crazy weekend

It was another crazy weekend around here. Saturday I had to get way too early to take Alex to meet Jane at the barn and then they went with a group of her friends up to the Farm Show building to a horse show. They both had a blast. While he was gone I had Sam who is Willow Street Becky's little 2 yo. Jeff and Becky are moving in to a new house of their very own in 2 weeks so they were helping Jeff's Grandparents move out and then started cleaning and painting. It was Walt's weekend to work so it was me and 3 children 4 and under. We spent most of the day outside except to eat and sleep. I did get alot done though. I got 7 loads of laundry washed, hung on the line and then sorted into the baskets. Sunday Alex and I both had to be at Church early. Alex to do powerpoint for the worship team and me to teach Kindergarden Church. Alex also played drums during second service so we were there all morning. Maddie fell asleep in our Pastor's Wife's lap during Sunday School. Betty Lou said she loved just rocking her. After Church it was a quick lunch, down for naps and then I had to leave for work at 1:15. I worked in Mount Joy from 2-10. It was a good shift. We had 1 call and the medic said that she would recomned me for MICU training. I am so happy about that. I have been waiting since June to be MICU trained.

Apr. 9, 2008 - good news and then a downer

Sorry it took me so long to update but Alex's foot isn't broken.  It is bruised badly so he is on crutches for a week to help it rest and heal.  He says it feels a bit better already.

I have been following the story of Ethan Powell.  He is a little boy that was born 3 weeks before Maddie and had cancer.  I was praying with all my heart that God would heal this little boy.  On Saturday Ethan went home to God.  I was at work when I read that update and I closed the door and just cried.  I can't imagine what his parents are going through.  I have also read the story of 2 other babies who died this week.

That is one of my biggest fears is that I would lose one of my children.  Everytime Alex gets on the back of the bull I pray for him to get his 8 seconds and for God to keep him safe.  Being an EMT I have seen children get hurt.  I have seen 1 child die and all I wanted was to go home and hold my children.  I know we will never know when God will call our loved ones home to him.  But I selfishly want to keep my children with me for a very long time.

Am I the only mom who worries about this?  I think sometimes I'm abnormal because I worry so much about it.  I know I am very overprotective of my kids (yes, you can laugh, I do let my skinny 14 yo ride a huge bull) but can I keep them safe and protect them?

Apr. 6, 2008 - Alex's foot

This is going to be a quick post because Maddie is starting to wake up from her nap.

Alex got stepped on (again) at last week's rodeo. The bull stepped on his right foot.  It hurt that day and then again on Monday.  After that it seemed to get better but now it is bothering him again.  I have it wrapped and he has an appt tomorrow at the Drs office.  Can you please say a quick prayer that it isn't broken.  Alex loves the rodeos and this is finally something that he really gets into.

Thanks.

Apr. 2, 2008 - radom thoughts for Wednesday

Alex did good at his rodeo this weekend.  He didn't get his 8 seconds but almost did on Saturday.  He got minor injuries both days.  Sunday was the worst.  His hand got caught up in the rope when he fell off and he got dragged a bit.  The he scrapped up his arm and the bull stepped on his right foot.  The arm is better now but his foot is still a bit swollen.  He played drums tonight for Youth group and it is really bothering him now. I told him to take an aleve then go to bed but once again mom has no clue what I am talking about because he didn't take an aleve.

Tomorrow is preschool day.  I hate preschool days because I get nothing done.  By the time I take Becca to preschool and drive home I have a little over an hour until I have to drive back to get her.  It is only 2 days a week but with me working 2-3 days a week those are my days to clean, homeschool Alex and get other stuff done.  Next year I am going to be teaching the 2 yo class one day a week so I will only have 1 day that I will have to take Becca to and from preschool.  But I have no one registered for the class yet so I might not be teaching.  If I don't teach I might not send Becca to preschool.  I might start going to a local homeschool co-op 1 day a week and maybe get her in a dance class or something.

Tomorrow is also crazy because in adition to taking Becca to preschool I have 2 amish taxi jobs.  I pick someone up at 8, take them to Quarryville.  I will probably take Becca with me so I can drop her at preschool on my way back.  Then I have to pick Becca up from prescholl, drive a few miles and pick up someone else.  Then take that woman somewhere and then home.  After that I have to pick up the original family in Quarryville at 3:30.  Plus I need to clean and go over Alex's schoolwork.

I am working alot to pay off bills right now so things are crazy around here but I am getting so overwelmed.  I think I am going to cut my hours in May to I actually see my husband and kids more than a couple hours a day.  I don't know how moms that work outside the home do it.  I feel stretched very thin right now and I'm only working 20-35 hours a week.  I am thinking about selling Tupperware to make some income in less time than I work now.

Mar. 29, 2008 - Off to the rodeo and other thoughts

Alex has rodeo today.  This one isn't that far away only about an hour.  So the girls are staying with their friend Sam and his parents (willow street Becky and Jeff) today while we go.  Tomrrow we either are taking them along or one of us is staying home with them.

Alex's friend Jane is also going along.  They say they are friends only but they text and email each other almost 50 times a day.  I'm glad that they are staying friends only because Alex is only 14 but they both need to either admit that they act like more than friends.  I am so not looking forward to Alex getting older.  Being the mom of a teenager and knowing when to say what is hard.

Well I'm off to a resale sale this morning. Willow Street Becky was going to go along with me but she got Mommy brain and forgot until she was there with her mom.  Oh well, I can get in, get what I want and get out hopefully.  I was looking for a double jogger but Becky said that there wasn't any there.  I want one so that I can take walks with both girls.  Becca can't walk fast enough when I'm walking for exercise.  I guess I'll just keep checking ebay and craigslist.

Mar. 26, 2008 - A new thing for me

Alot of my friends have blogs so I thought I would try to start one.  I will try to update this as often as possible.

We are watching Elijah today.  He is our Youth Pastors little boy.  He is almost 7 mo and Maddie isn't quite sure what to think of him.  Right now he is sitting in the walker just watching the girls play.  Elijah will be here about 2 hours today until about 6:30.

Becca had her 4 yo appt today.  She is 32 pounds 6 ounces and is 39 inches tall.  She is still a petite little girl and probably always will be.  The Dr asked her is she likes to talk and Becca told him she did.  He said he could tell that, lol.
