The girls just started singing this term, I thought (my bad!!), that neither of them, especially 'Merah (5yr old) wouldn have a bar of it, but they both love the classes. I even went as far as telling the teacher that 'Merah probably wouldn't join in and I'd have to pull her out of the class. I'ts amazing how much I underestimate my kiddies.
We just started this week, sitting down and putting some effort in to teaching Tamerah to read. I eased up with the full on Teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons book, as she didn't respond to the several different excercises as well as I hoped, instead I use the order of sounds that the book introduces, the printable handwriting pages that goes along with the book (from Donna Young.com) and she started reading, really I just slowed down and didn't try to do to much (now where have I heard that before??)
She is doing really well with her maths I don't really do anything but talk, read and do things with her, she does alot herself, like use magnetic numbers on the fridge and then asks me to tell her what sum she has made, she definitely has a photographic memory, but she can then transfer what she has learnt to a written sum, so I think she is definitely making good progress.
During the last holidays we did a unit study on the up and coming Beijing Olympics, with 'Lisey and her cousin, who we look after. They loved it, we did a lapbook which we found at Homeschool Share.com. And 'Lisey is still carrying on with it she is going to choose a team/country to follow once the Olympics start ie what sports they are participating in, medal tally, etc.
