Turning Blessings into Praise

Harry Potter!

My MIL strikes again.  After all the grief between us and her about our parenting choices...after the many discussions we've had about why we shelter our children, especially the no santa, no halloween stuff...what did she get for our oldest dd's 8th birthday?  the first Harry Potter book!  AARRGHH!!!!

While I realize that many people enjoy HP books, we don't.  My daughter is not interested in anything to do with boys, wizards, etc.  She likes soft furry animals and ballerinas.

I realize I haven't told the story about why we moved, but suffice it to say that MIL wanting to control our parenting decisions was the reason.  And here she goes again...all the other grandparents offer the courtesy of asking what to get or at least checking with us if we agree with their choice.  But not my MIL, she just forges ahead.

And in just 3 weeks, we will be spending a long weekend in a small cabin with her.  It will be torture, pure torture.

Cut the strings

Posted by 2boysmom

I'm sorry, but I have to comment on this subject. I read your blog from November, 2006, when you said that "my MIL and husband are breathing down my back to produce results". Since when do you owe your MIL any results? If God called you to have your children at home, it is none of her business and if she is threatening you, in regards to the children's schooling - MOVE farther away!
She has no right or say so in what you are doing - unless it is abusive or harmful. If your husband is not supportive of you then that is where your problem lies. Ya'll should be a team and it sounds like you're in this alone.
Tell your husband to cut the strings and stand behind you. He is supposed to be your biggest fan and MIL is supposed to be busy with her own life - not yours.
I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but we are not called to do as our MIL says - We are called to follow Christ and HIS calling for our lives.

This blog could have been written by my wife. I hope that things have calmed down or you. Good luck with the contest!

I am so with you on the HP thing. We haven't/aren't doing it either. It makes me sad that so many are into this. Quite scary, if you ask me!

Not everyones MIL follows guidelines...
mine still sends presents for ALL the kids on each child's b day, so no one will be "left out"...*sigh*

just think of the time in the cabin as MINISTRY, and prepare your kids in advance.
