• Nov. 7, 2006 - Homeschool Center

I'm sorry I've been gone for so long.  I've been on vacation, and teaching at the new homeschool center that a few friends and myself are setting up.  We are using mostly co-operative teaching.  Each parent has their strengths, and each child has their interests.  So a child only signs up for things they are interested in.

My children are taking theater, music, art, ballroom dancing, tae kwan do, math, speech, creative writing etc... we go twice a week, and we really enjoy it.  I am actually joining in with the speech/debate and love it.

It's so exciting, to see the kids enjoying themselves, and learning new things.

We hired a teacher for theater and speech, and for speech class she was having them debate dogs vs. cats as pets.  Some of the kids were wanting something more meaty.

We suggested that they argue one of the rights in the first amendment, and almost before we could get the question out about whether they knew them...the teens started rattling them off.  I just chuckled.  They knew the freedoms in our first amendment, more than most voters.

It was just one of those moments, when you know you are doing the right thing, and are so glad that our children know about the constitution better than most adult voters.

I teach creative writing to the teens, and arts and crafts to the elementary and preschool kids on Thursdays.

Halloween week, we did a craft on spiders, and we made these spider hats:

Aren't they adorable.  We accompanied it with a reading of "The Spider and The Fly" by: Mary Howitt (it's a poem, put in picture book form for the kids).  The children loved it, and you could see little spider legs bouncing all up and down the halls at our new homeschool center.

Kids loved to make the legs bounce as they walked.

We wore ours home on our drive to our house...yes, even me.  And boy did we get some funny looks while we were driving.  LOL

I am a crazy mom!  Thank goodness!

I LOVE homeschooling!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cool hats!!! The homeschool center sounds wonderful...and ballroom dancing...now that is neat! I know it's hard work, but it sounds like it is an incredible opportunity for the children. And, way to go teens-knowing the First Ammendment. Thanks for stopping by!
