• Jun. 10, 2007 - Our Homeschool Play

Before I get to our homeschool play I had to post this picture of our view from our hotel room in La Jolla.

And this one of my two youngest waiting in line at Disneyland...so cute!  They are so affectionate.

Here are the pictures from our play.  We did a play called Summer Garden, most people know it as Beauty and the Beast.  It was so good.  All these kids are homeschoolers.  This play was attended by hundreds and was so well done...I could not believe it.

I can't give out their names, but these kids had a lot of talent.

The girl on the left is "Belle" and the 2 in the middle (two of my best creative writing students) play her sisters, and the one on the right is another of my very best creative writing students.  She plays Belle's mother.

These girls were dancers and did a fine job.

The boy on the left played the beast (He didn't have his costume on), the other boys are servants to Belle's dad.  They were so comical they kept everyone laughing.  The boy on the right, his mother was one of the gals who put this together.  She was so busy, that I didn't get a photo of her.  LOL

The one on the right is also another one of my creative writing students.

This is the shy little baker man.  LOL  He wasn't so shy at the Valentine party, but he was this night.  Here he is getting into costume as a baker.  (Notice the stuffing his mom is adding.)  His mom was instrumental in putting this play together.  The baker man is another one of my creative writing students.

This is our director.  She looks so happy.  She did a great job of pulling this off.

And now...drum roll please....

Here is my 14yos Jacob, with his friend (in one of the other pictures).  Jacob played Belle's dad, and he got to sing a solo...which he did very well I might add.  I had to threaten grounding to get him to pose for this picture.  LOL

As we were setting up, the teen young men sang for us as they did their microphone checks.  We were laughing so hard as they hammed it up on stage.

I wish I could fit more photos on here, but the site won't let me.  We had about 30 kids involved.

Thanks for visiting.

This is a bit more involved than the backyard productions our homeschooling group does! Neat! I think it's great that our kids can have these experiences.

Thanks for commenting! I love the pictures on your blog, keep them coming!

Peace and Laughter,
Cristina

I love pictures, so thanks for sharing. Plays are a LOT of work. My 12-year-old son was one of the Herdmans in our community play, Best Christmas Pageant Ever a few years ago. My "nice" little boy really got into his part as the "brat."
Since I had to take him twice a week for practice, and they needed "ladies" I ended up being in it, too. I had rollers in my hair and 3 lines on the phone.

But I almost made a disaster of it. The lights were off, everything was dark, and I was making my way closer to my place behind the curtain to get ready to go on stage, and.... I ran smack into the risers, crashed to the floor (yes, a loud, unidentifiable sound was heard by all!), skinned my arms, jumped up and got to my "spot" just as the spotlight came on for me to say my lines. Lights went off, I scuttled backstage and assessed the damage. Blood and bruises. I hurt for a couple days, and had to do two more performences that weekend. Thus ended my career as an actress on stage.

Hi,
It was great to read about your trip and see the photos. What great fun you all had and it's somewhere on my dream list I'd love to visit.
Yes, Adelaide is our capital city. We live about 35 or 40 km from it. So your in-laws live in Adelaide? I hope you do get to pay a visit because it's a lovely city. We can tell you some of the best sights to see so let us know your plans when your trip gets closer.
Warm regards,
Paula
PS That 12yo boy of mine is a bit of a character. He makes droll remarks like that all the time. And I'll be trying to download some photos for the blog in the future so it was encouraging to read about the experiences of someone else who's experienced frustration.
