• Oct. 3, 2007 - Comic...my first

No matter how hard I try I cannot get the words from the NEA quote to show up in here.  They do on my copy, but when I go to view it, it has erased it.  I don't know what else to do.  Giving it one more try.

I was inspired by Jugglingpaynes to make a comic.  I have to warn you that it is a bit of satire.  Many seem to to see the humor in my comic.  I'm not as good as my friend is.  This is my first comic, so give me a break.

Many have asked what it says in the bubble.  It's a quote from the NEA's latest list of resolutions:

"When homeschooling occurs, students must meet all state requirements, including taking and passing assesments to ensure adequate academic progress.  Instruction should be by persons who are licensed by the appropriate state education licensure agency and use a curriculum approved by the state..." ~NEA 2007 Resolutions

I feel like I am being chased by the Borg!  I must be assimilated or die!  LOL

I think it is comical how so many times science fiction mirrors true life.  Tell me your thoughts on this...and please...laugh!  If we don't laugh about this, we will give them power and we will go crazy!

I love it! If we had a homeschooling newspaper, this would be on the editorial page!
Helpful hint: There are two ways to handle lettering. If you do it freehand (as I do) pencil it out first with a sharp pencil to get a sense of your space. I always put the balloon around it last. If it doesn't come out the way you like it, scan it to a program like photoshop. You can use photoshop to touch up errors and you can even type in the text to fit in your bubble!
I've been doing this a year now. If you look back at my earliest strips, you will see how even a year of consistent work can improve your style!
Peace and Laughter,
Cristina

I laughed and laughed! I am a Star Trek fan and I found your comic totally perfect! The Borg Collective cube comic I can envision seeing in World Magazine. Why not submit it? You could make it colorful and polish the Enterprise a bit, and send it in with the NEA resolution as the caption or something. The Resistance is Futile is just great. World readers would certainly "get it."
Thanks for inviting me over!
BTW, political cartoons are usually satire. Good job!
I'm going to send my friend Lyric over your way.

Oh, that's funny! :-)

ETA: (I noticed Susan's comment) I love Star Trek, too. That satire is awesome. I agree you should send it in to World or something... anything! Everyone needs to see that! *Continues laughing and re-reads the comic*

I just wanted to let you know that I found the book after google-ing "Dinghy titmouse book" (*not* the names). Thanks for your help! I wouldn't have thought of Google if you hadn't mentioned it.

hahahah....you did good!

I've heard about this policy and was wondering if they really are trying to get it passed. How ridiculous that I should only want my children to attain the State's level! Lol, they all have hire expectations.

As a closet Trecky, I found your borg reference VERY FUNNY!

The quote from the resolutions is a little scary. I hope homeschoolers will stand up and defend their right to homeschool.

We are standing up and fighting the teacher's unions. They don't like us. There is a wonderful group called Eagle Forum that watches things all over the nation for homeschoolers.

Here is one of the articles:

Very funny. Can I link to your cartoon on my blog? All homeschoolers need to know what the NEA is saying.
