• Aug. 2, 2008 - My cup runneth over!!!!!!

The first thing I should probably mention is that I got into a fight with and apricot tree...and the tree won!  lol  I was picking apricots and fell out of the tree head first.  I ended up in the hospital.  Here are a few of my wounds.

I mentioned in passing that we planted a garden this year.  I had NO IDEA how much an 8th of an acre would produce.  I am overwhelmed with produce.  lol

This is one days worth of pickings.  We get this every day!

The first is a box of zuchini an squash.  Yes, the is only one days worth.  I only planted 2 of each plant.  UGH!

The next is a basket of pickling cucumbers.  I have been making pickles...and will continue for another month or so.

The last picture is salad cucumbers.  They are great to eat...but we have too many!!!  lol

We are on a half acre, and I planted along the entire back of our property, and along the sides of the house as well.

Here is one half of my garden:

Here is the other half...

I had to use two photos, because it is so large.  lol

We have zuchini, squash, grapevines, cucumbers (both pickling and salad), tomatoes, cantaloupe, watermelon, mini pumpkins, white pumpkins, large orange pumpkins, spaghetti squash and corn.

Here is my front garden with mint and rosemary growing.  My lavendar isn't doing to well.  This is after I hacked down the mint.  It was 3 times as tall before.

Here is the view from my backyard of our mountains:

We have quite a bit of grass in, but as you can see we are still working on it.

I will be posting photos of our soccer games as soon as I figure out how to download them.  ;)

Ouchhhh......what a picture. How's your head? I can't believe how much you're getting out of your garden. I haven't had a garden to speak of for over 20 years, so I can't remember the amount of harvest. I just put a few plants in my flowerbed each year. Like tomatoes and eggplants. I guess a garden really would be productive. I was wondering if it would be worth the time and effort.....
Thanks for the tour! Hope you recover well.

Where's the tree that did you in? I hope you are feeling better now! Please pick safely next time.

Marina's 8x8 plot gave quite a yield this year too. This year is salad greens and green beans. We try to change it every year to avoid depleting the soil. I remember the year we did cucumbers. You do get a lot!

Have you tried any berries? I had a fantastic strawberry yield this year and we also have blueberries, elderberries and blackberries. Very low maintenance bushes.

Peace and Laughter, prayers for continued healing!

And WOW...what a green thumb you have...
not me! Bugs have destroyed my small garden, so I am only growing flowers.

Wow! Only two of each plant! That's amazing! We've only been getting squash for about two weeks. I have zucchini, yellow zucchini, straightneck, and yellow scalloped. 3 of each, 4 of the scalloped plants. The last three days' pickings filled my dutch oven type roasting pan. Hubby says I'll have to find people out here to share with, his co-workers don't have a huge need, so I may find myself at the farmer's market on a Saturday here and there.

My cucumber area didn't work especially well, I have 5 or 6 green cucumber plants, and they're just barely forming cucumbers. I have lots of lemon cucumber plants, again, no fruit yet. We got things in a little late. The lemon cucumbers are really yummy, but they get mushy when I try to pickle them.

My blue pumpkin plants looked so good a month ago, but all but one plant have succumbed either to some sort of disease or pest. I'll be lucky to get any pumpkins. My tomatoes are starting to show signs of lots of fruit, but again, it's late because we didn't plant 'til the beginning of June. I'm not exactly sure how much space is planted...easily between an eighth and a quarter acre. Lots of work, but awesome biology classroom. The kids have seen all kinds of wildlife, plus the development of the different types of plantlife!

Blessings,
Anne-Marie

And the view, that is spectacular! Looks like where I live.
By the way, I added two lapbook links to my blog. That will help you when you are ready to do some lapbooking.
