• Sep. 21, 2008 - Rock Climbing

Well, we decided to take up rock climbing.  We took lessons on a rock wall from a fellow homeschooler, then the following week we took our first lesson on a real cliff.  This was awesome.  Here are some pictures from our outing.

Here he is climbing up and a jet flew overhead.  It was cool.

Dad had his turn.

Now me:

When I reached the top, I found a small catnip plant and decided to sit a spell and chew on some catnip.

I was waving down telling them what I found at the top, growing out of a rock...catnip.  lol

And then down.  We are planning another repelling lesson on Wednesday.  I am excited about it.

Here is the view from where we were climbing.

Afterwards I went to my sister-in-laws to visit, and her son (who just began homeschooling) asked me why we homeschool and I said "because I can go rock climbing on a Friday afternoon and not have to answer to anybody for it."  lol  It's so true though.  My kids learned a lot about plants, bugs (we caught a huge beetle) and of course we learned about rock climbing.  It was a fun day.

That is quite an impressive climb. I bet it was a lot of fun memories created with the children. Too cool!

Is your garden still producing? I've got a great way of using that squash...Zukey Joe's! I do lowfat Jimmy Dean sausage in a fry pan, once it's cooked, add a couple of large zucchini or other summer squash chopped into small pieces, cook until tender, then stir in a couple of cups of shredded cheddar. Serve on hamburger buns.

Also, don't know if I mentioned before, but I cook a soup pot of squash in water and chicken bouillion, add onion and carrot if I have it...once it cooks well and cools, I put in freezer ziplocs and freeze for soup base down the road. When I fix my soups later, I'll puree so the squash tastes great but no slimey texture. Awesome with sausage!

Our fall festival is this weekend...got a huge radish(see the pic on my blog)!

Blessings,
Anne-Marie

About Me

I am new to this blogging thing, so you'll have to put up with my inexperience. I am a homeschool mom of 5 (for the last 12 years). I love poetry (reading and writing), oil painting, water colors, cooking and scrapbooking. I love science fiction, and enjoy the mountains in the summer and fall. We enjoy bug collecting, rock collecting, and plant pressing. We love our nature notebooks, and our nature walks. I look forward to learning from you all. I love Charlotte Mason, be we use in conjunction with other forms of learning. We are flexible. LOL
