I use Sonlight's reading list as the basis of our history for the year. I also like to do unit studies and lapbooks.
Otherwise, I love anything by Critical Thinking Press: MindBenders, Building Thinking Skills, Mathematical Reasoning Through Verbal Analysis, Can You Find Me?, Editor-in-Chief, Reading Detective, etc.
I use Math-U-See for Katie, though I am adding in some Key to... math books (fractions, decimals, etc.) to supplement it. Sarah hated Math-U-See, so I am using A Beka math with her.
I'm using the Orton-Gillingham method to teach reading to Sarah. Katie does Editor-in-Chief, Reading Detective, Spelling Power, and various other grammar/handwriting/language arts books.
Science we do on our own, pretty much, just reading cool books from the library, watching Nature or other nature programs, going outside on our own, attending park programs, and through our homeschool Co-op. (I am usually the one teaching science to the older kids.)
I like Rosetta Stone for foreign language and utilize our library's database which allows us to do it for free! (It's not the complete program, but you can get really far.) I also like Rummy Roots and English from the Roots Up.
Music and art are just such a natural part of our existence I haven't done too much formally with either. I should consider lessons soon, though (for music). We also do music through church and art through Co-op. (Gym, too.)
Bible is also one of those normal parts of our life things. The girls do AWANAs and go to Sunday School practically every week, plus church. |
