I managed to eat one of my own chickens and it was yummy! I was a bit worried that I would be too squeamish, but when I saw that rich brown gravy and smelled that good roast chicken smell, there was no problem.

At the supper table the other night, Megan, my 6yo picked a small piece of food from her plate and asked cheerily, "Is this a piece of esophogus skin?" I almost choked and said, "Ew! No!" She poked at it a bit more, then pointed to the bowl of asparagus in the middle of the table, "I mean that stuff." :D

Hooray! I don't have to make the big 'schedule' that I was half fretting about. I am able to work things in quite well while flying by the seat of my pants in my regular style. We've had an awesome first few days of school and all of our subjects are just fitting themselves in naturally. We've even found plenty of time to dissect an owl pellet, watch some educational videos, take some nature walks, do Tae Bo, bake together, do crafts, play math games, read lots of books, etc. In fact, I think I may just send some logs to last year's DL teacher even though I'm not signed up with her...just to brag!!! Hope everyone else is loving their school year as much as I am so far!

I am not a schedule person, but I'm trying to make one for school this year. I just don't know how to fit it all in. I REALLY like everything we're doing, so I don't want to cut any of it. I definitely can't give up FIAR, I love my Francais Facile so far, I like my Excellence in Writing program and my Learning Language Arts Through Literature. I definitely want to do my Apologia science and Diana Waring history. I like Singapore math, yet still want to find time to add lots of math games and Math-It. I need to have time scheduled in for bible, crafts, cooking, read alouds, and many other things. With two students, I'm trying to arrange everything so that they can do most things together, but that their individual one-on-one subjects line up with the independent work time for the other. No wonder I never make schedules! |

Back to school time...hooray! Our very first day back was a small party. We usually do a bigger celebration, but we'd just come back from a long weekend of camping...camping with a newborn...so I wasn't as well rested as I like to be. It was a fun, casual little "School's Out" backwards day party. The kids made inside out sandwiches, designed their own invitations to the party, told backwards knock-knock jokes, dressed and walked backwards etc. Very confusing for the tired moms, but the kids enjoyed themselves. Our first 'real' school day was yesterday and it was awesome! I think we're really going to like our new French program, 'La Francais Facile'. My only regret of the day is that I don't have to send off logs...I think it would have looked really good on a log. ;)
