Theft of YOUR Online Content - Now Playing at a Site Near Us All

Nancy Baetz and Steve Walden both report having their content stolen - harvested by bots and reposted without attribution at someone else's "educational" site. Nancy has written a beauty of a post specifying both the offender's name and their game.

It is automatedly fronting the thieves' homepage as we speak. Gorgeous work, Nancy. Please write at least ten more of them.

Steve, in the meantime, has made it public that legal action will be taken. If it comes to that, I'll back him.

Another suggestion I read was to notify Google of the illegal site, since it seems to be designed simply to make money on click-throughs. Given that three of the ads keyworded to Nancy's Stolen post were advertising stolen cars online, I'm not sure I'd count on the corporation's sense of ethics.

One thing this little scam does do is boost the illegal website's hit count as upset bloggers everywhere check to see if their content is being publicly raped. May I offer a bit of a stopgap while this gets sorted out?

Under "General Settings" in your Manager page, there is a "Content Default for New Entries" box. I've entered the copyright that's now going to be marching across the bottom of every post, as per below. If you see it somewhere other than here, please let me know. (N.B.: This text box will appear automatically at the top of the page. Just move the cursor up and make your entry above it.)

For those of you who follow the links and find your work being molested, I do recommend the elegance of Nancy's comeback. The more times we write "this is an illegal site" across their homepage, the better.
