wild (but not uncultivated) musings of a Canadian unschool mom

Well, momentarily, anyway. Tomorrow, I host the
"right" (as opposed to "left") side of the family for a belated
birthday party on Spazzerific's behalf. My house is still trashed, in fact, I myself have gone and made it worse.
That's right. I said me. And
I'm not ashamed of it either. I ripped apart the living room,
scattering books and papers hither and yon and exposing the dark
underbelly of my desk's corner. Wherefore, sayest thou? (Yeah, I've
been dipping into the Shakespeare again. And I'm not sorry for that
either. Hmph.) Well, actually, the why and wherefore is that I'm now
authorizationifying this content, right here, baby, from my new Spot of
Seclusion.
Better known as that corner of the house that used to be a bathroom,
then was a crappily done kitchen nook (by the last guy), then nearly
became a back entry, and is now slated to return to bathroomhood some
time in the 2030s. Based on our current home reno track record, anyway.
La... Lalala la.... singin' in the not-shower. I have nearly 5 by 8
feet all to myself! And it pleaseth me, forsooth. I have gotten more
done since yesterday afternoon, when I verily wired the phone line down
through the unhooked hot air register, under the wall and up through
the cold air return, also unfettered, then dragged said wire about the
perimeter of the bedroom to the phone jack.
Hey. At least we didn't have to call the phone repair guy. However,
I've quickly learned that I still need a lock on this door. Ol'
Breakneck hath wandered in twice in the last ten minutes, once for no
apparent reason and the second time - somewhat like his four mini-me's
- to complain about having spilled hot tea on himself and show me the
owie.
Yep. Think I'll go doorknob shopping. And no, I'm not looking to trade in any of my family members. Just looking for a little uninterrupted time to hear myself think.

Have fun in your new cave! It sounds amazing.
Your house renovation projects go about like ours. We have been finishing the basement for 4 years and have a bedroom and a bathroom. We have a "guest" room that has drywall up, but is not taped ~ The family room? Well, we will probably hastily finish that for the new owners if we ever decide to move! I have found that a pattern of my life. I never have the time or money to fix up a house until I am trying to sell it. (And, if we can't get rid of all the ants in my bathroom, I might like that to be sooner than later!)
Shakespearean?
Locks have keys, and even if the key be kept safe, forsooth, the lock will be picked. Thou canst not truly expect solitude for even a modicum of five minutes have you children or not. Verily, life hath a way with interruptions.
Good luck with your party.

Attack of the Shakespeare monkey.
What's this? Wouldst thou deny
The verity of my assertion?
I' faith, I did but speak truth.
And in what fair day (alas, long past)
Did parentage posses any measure of peace?
Unheard thoughts, indeed,
but only for cause of the noise.
Cast aside thy thoughts of peace and rest,
Thy longing for calm.
Thou'rt a parent...
Luck favors me; I'm but a monkey.
