I Had to Get Back Here Somehow...

Thanks to the "other Zookeeper" for tagging me and thereby dragging me back here for a bit to share some happenings.  :~)

1. All right, here are the rules.

2. We have to post these rules before we give you the facts.

3. Players start with eight random facts/habits about themselves.

4. People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight
things and post these rules.

5. At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged
and list their names. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re
tagged, and to read your blog

So here it goes.....my 8 facts:

1) The weeds are about four feet tall, thanks to the rain and muck which made our gardens almost impassable for a good part of the spring.
2) I am a real auntie, not just an auntie-in-law!! I've been spending time visiting with my brother and sister-in-law and their new baby this last week. They live on the other side of Canada, so this is a rare and beautiful time.
3) I got to chat by phone with one of my west-coast cousins over the last couple of days. It was great to catch up.
4) I slept under the stars last night. No kidding. It was pretty awesome. Lawn swing, blanket, book, candles and bug repellent.
5) I heard a great presentation about globalism and religion a couple of weeks back. It gave me a whole new perspective on the religious literary industry, and religious industry in general.
6) Dave got a second-hand trampoline for the kids day before yesterday.
7) My sister-in-law used to teach trampoline as part of her gymnastics, so she taught the kids a bunch of tricks today.
8) I have blackmail pictures of my brother on the trampoline now, too. ;~)

If you're actually reading this, you're tagged. I suspect that will be less than 8 people anyway, since I've allowed myself to become an invisible blogger lately.

Sex Ed Gets Another Failing Grade

Today's HSLDA e-report included a link to a LifeSite article discussing a report on the relative ineffectiveness of sex ed as compared to abstinence teaching. (The original report is also available.)

I'm about to have a heart attack and die from not-surprise.

Oddly, one of the things that jumped out at me was the mixed feelings I had about the subtle phrasing related to "high-risk" groups. I'm not sure I can pinpoint it, but I didn't like the phrase "poor African or American single-parent" families. It just seemed like a bad way to combine words.

When Doctrinal Differences Get Fun

Last week, thanks to StatCounter, I discovered that a previously-unknown someone had linked to SBD, voicing a one-sentence opinion on one of my many, many opinions. It had already been a bad day, so I tracked him down and unleashed my horrendous sense of humour on him.

Bless his soul, the guy came back and made me laugh myself silly. I promptly fake-surrendered the debate on completely spurious grounds. It is so refreshing right now to encounter someone who actually cares whether their words cause harm. (I'll elaborate on that rarity at a later date.)
