Since I wrote the previous post, I started
thinking about the Two Golden Hours for our kids and our
homeschool. For me, the Two Golden Hours are the first two hours
my kids spend studying.
How do we spend our Two Golden Hours?
Our first hour is spent together as a family. We read history and
literature, memorize and read poetry, discuss humanities and
pray. If there is something I want to discuss with all of the
kids I do it at this time.
Why do I spend our Two Golden Hours this way?
The first hour is spent on the most important thing we do...read
together as a family. If I don't read with the kids first thing,
it does not get done. AND, reading is most important to me.
Another reason we spend our first hour together is that it reinforces
with my kids the idea that being together as a family is
important. So many families never spend time together, much less
reading together.
What about our second Golden Hour?
The second golden hour is time for the kids to delve into their
studies. It is the time that they are freshest and should be
working on the activity that requires the most thinking.
How do you spend your kids spend their Two Golden Hours?
