In Serbia & Croatia, the old stories of
Boniface and the sacred grove gave rise to the tradition of taking a
stout log, boring out its center, filling it with herbs, oil, wine and
setting it upon the hearth fire - thus filling the home with the sweet
fragrance of scented wood smoke. The Yule Log became a vital part
of the Advent celebration for Christians throughout central and eastern
Europe.
