Jul. 11, 2007 - Findulas's Calls
Tell me what you think! A Fan-fiction based on The Children of Hurin, by J.R.R. Tolkein.
"Turin!" Findulas screamed.
Turin stood in the court-yard, face to face with Glauring, the dragon-bane. Findulas could smell the dragon's reek, and she recoiled as vomit welled in her mouth. Turin's tall form cut a silhouette against the background of fires, Orcs, and Elvin soldiers.
"Turin!" She screamed again.
Turin still stood-- infuriatingly still. Findulas threw her head over her shoulders, watching the fearful pair as an Orc offender jerked her recklessly through the rubble.
"Turin!"
She mentally willed him to come, calling him with all her mental and spiritual faculties, but he seemed frozen into place like a stone statue.
"Turin!" Desparation crept into her voice!
"Turin, it's me! Awake! Come free from the dragon-bane's hold!"
But still he stood, a mere shell of a man being bent to Morgoth's black will.
Turin's eyes glazed, and he slightly swooned.
"No! Turin!"
He rolled his head in a circle, and his hand seemed to move, as if in the direction of his sword.
"Turin, please!"
Mentally, he could vaguely hear her cries for help, but an overwhelming silence, abnormal for the raging battleground in Nargothrond's court, deadened his senses. He felt Morgoth wrenching at his brain, grappeling for a loophole. His head exploded. Hundreds of clubs battered at his mental wall.
"No, I defy you, Morgoth Melkor, fallen One of the Valar! You will not win here!"
The words, though not spoken, were replied to.
"I will kill Findulas, just as I killed Lalaith, Morwen, and Nienor."
"No! You did not kill them! Lalaith has passed into shadow, but Morwen, wife of Hurin, lives, as does Nienor, her daughter and my sister!"
"It is futile to resist me. Come. Join me."
"Never! I would sooner bow to you than kill myself."
"Turin!" It was Findulas again.
"You. You are a traitor, Turin, Hurin's son. You have hated the one who rescued you and brought you to Nargothrond. You stole his love, his engaged wife."
"No, I did not! Findulas sought me out of her own accord! I did not steal her love in any way. The choice was hers, and I never expressed any claim on her heart. I do not love her as she loves me."
"Woman-thief."
"Let me go, Lurker of Darkeness!"
"As you wish."
Findulas saw Turin fall to the ground.
"Turin!" She called again.
Crumpled in a heap, Turin had lost all senses, and heard her not.

Jul. 2, 2007 - Hello :)
Summer is such a beautiful time of year! The sun makes everything warm and beautiful, and I can't wait to waterski and hike and take walks and spend time with my family. I spent a lot of time outside last week, staring at the mountains, watching the rivers cascade down into the valleys, and basking in the penetrating sunlight. I've also been journalling a lot. I accidentally lost my journal, so I'm waiting to get it back, but in the mean time I'm reading and writing a story. The book I'm reading is The Gospel for Real Life, and the story I'm writing doesn't have a name yet. I will post it here when it is finished.
