Feb. 3, 2006 - Chocolate.......Please help me!!!

Hopefully someone will find me here and give me some idea of how to break this addiction to that wonderful substance that seems to melt away all of my stress as it melts in my mouth.  I recently joined a gym and I am attempting to find that healthy cycle of life that has eluded me for about two years now.  Chocolate is my nemesis I am figuring out.  Once the stuff touches my lips I am swept away in my thoughts of obtaining it again for the rest of the day.  I am not kidding.  I have tried just having a "tiny" bit....but it does not work.  I only want more.  Ok.  I hate to obsess about anything  but I really am quite frustrated.  There must be a country or blues song about this somewhere.  Ah well, please post a comment if you have any suggestions or can empathize with me in any way.  Happy Friday night to you, thanks in advance for reading (and posting).

Well...chocolate has flavonoids which seem to help prevent heart disease and cancer. Goodness, it's almost health food! Why would you want to give it up!?!
Right now I am eating a "Cadbury Delight" which has 80% less sugar than regular milk chocolate. I suppose it probably has a lot more fat and other things that are worse in it though. I have purposefully avoided reading the label just in case it doesn't say nice things.
I guess my only bit of chocolate covered advice would be to stick with dark chocolate. It's much better for you and possibly not as enticing to overindulge on.
That's great that you're sticking with the gym! Good for you! How's the tailbone feeling?

If this will open for you, it is a wonderful study to do on chocolate. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

Feb. 9, 2006 - Choc!

As you're one of the people who can't stop once they've started (I think), would it help to allow yourself some late on in the day? At least it reduces the time you have to eat it?
One thing I have considered doing is starting my dieting day in the evening - perhaps around nine or ten o'clock. Anything eaten then is part of tomorrow's food. So if my resistance is down and I eat, at least I can cut back later - in the daytime - knowing my resistance is better then.
I haven't tried it. Just a thought :-)
I used to store chocolate in the freezer - which helps so long as you don't get a taste for frozen chocolate!
Like lots of women, I get chocolate days and non-chocolate days - I reckon if I don't eat it on non-choc days then I should have some if I feel I 'need' it, because if I don't I feel deprived and am more likey to go a bit mad <g>. A sort of banking system!
I hope you find something that works for you,
Alice

Feb. 9, 2006 - Fellow Chocoholic here

I don't have any advice on how to break your addiction, but I can empathize with you. I love chocolate, but I get horrible migranes when I eat a lot of it. I've never been able to stop cold turkey, but I do try to limit myself. I suppose the threat of ending up with a migrane helps me control myself! Oh well--can't have everything. ;-)
