Jumping In (Finally)

Posted in About Me

Well, I signed up here quite a while ago, and just never got my thoughts together to start blogging.  I have started quite a few blogs, but have been unable to keep any one going consistently.  So here's to a fresh start.

I would like to dust off my keyboard, sort through some thinking and learning and keep a record of it here.  This seems like a nice place to call "home".

A little about me:

  • My name is Kim and I'm a 35 year old wife and mother to one terrific preschooler.
  • Before becoming a mother, I taught young children (mostly kindergarten through third grade age) in a public school system in for ten years.
  • A good portion of my teaching experience was non-traditional in that I taught in multi-age classrooms for five of those years.  (kindergarten, first and second grade students combined)
  • My husband and I decided that we would definitely homeschool our daughter in the recent past, though we started talking about it around 2 years ago.
  • Since that decision, I have been furiously searching out information and learning all I can about various homeschool philosophies, methods and curricula.
  • I never knew there was so much "out there" for homeschool educators!
  • I think that I am a born teacher, so to speak (and not necessarily in the classroom sense of the word)......and I never would have guessed that the prospect of educating a child of my own from home would leave me with doubts and questions as much as it has.
  • I have come to realize that I will never *know* enough to feel fully prepared for this calling------and, that is okay.
  • I am at a point where I think *I* need a little more structure and direction as to how we spend our days-----and I think I have found a path to follow for now.
  • I am so thankful for those that have gone before me in this endeavor; and for all that is so freely shared in the online.
  • Most of all I am thankful for the opportunity and desire to be home with our daughter as we purpose to teach her about this wonderful world and the Master of it all.
