hi there!
I have a horse training question.....
I have been training my 3 year old mare useing the "Natural Horsemanship" method...she is doing really well, and is learning very quickly...she is really smart and sometimes she uses it to her advantage...which is not always the best thing...so anyway...I have been riding her a lot at a walk and trot...and in the process of riding her I kind of let her disciplines go slack...so now she will not stand still...I have tried everything I can think of...from breaking it down into steps...bending her...etc...but she still moves away...now...once I do get on her, and ride her for less than 5 minutes and get back off, and get back on, she has no problem...it is almost as if she just has to GO...if you know what I mean...so is it worth fooling with? or should I still try to get her to stand still? she is doing wonderful with everything else...in fact she is even jumping over 3 foot barrels...on her own...and walking over tarps, and having a ball bounced all over her...so you see that she is very level headed, and calm...especially for a 3 year old.
This is my first horse, and the first horse that I have ever REALLY trained...I have somewhat trained horses before, but not all the ground work...all the ground work was already done on them...so they were rather easy...but Kai (my horse) was not even touched till she was 1 1/2 years old...so she is still learning some of the ground work...she has learned most of it...but she still needs some touching up.
So anyway...because she is so smart, I really want to teach her the RIGHT way, and not the wrong way...
PLEASE give me some tips!!! Sorry this is so long!

Sorry I know I'm Grace not him, but what usually works for me is if they don't want to stand still I get on and run them and run them some more. pretty much saying if you want disobey me you get to work. I know that pretty much sounds as if they are getting their way, but you have to keep pushing them even when they want to stop. Then you give them a chance to stop and if they still don't want to stop do the whole thing over again. And again. and again. and Again. Until they consistly stop when you ask them to. I hope this helps, and I know you weren't asking for help from me, but...... :-)
