San Francisco Day Trip

Posted in Family Fun

Have I ever told you how much I love San Francisco?  It is one of my favorite places to visit.  I don't think I could ever live there, though.  However, living 90 minutes away makes for some fabulous opportunities for day and weekend trips.

We wanted to tour Coit Tower, but when we got there, we found out that you needed to either take the bus up or have a parking permit.  We did neither, so we had to go to 'Plan B'.

We drove to Fisherman's Wharf and enjoyed all sights and people...

One of our favorite restaurants...

Three of my  'favorites'...Grandma, 'R', and cheese...

Two more faves...DH and 'A'

After lunch, from Fisherman's Wharf we took the bus to Chinatown.  Mass transit in San Francisco is not a highlight for me.  Although efficient, the buses were so crowded.  Everyone made the best of it, though.

Chinatown is such a treat.  It is another world.  It was fun to see it through the boys eyes.

The architecture was a treat.  We also got to visit the oldest Buddhist temple on the west coast.  It was on the fourth floor of a building and you had to climb stairs to get to it.  You would never know it was there if you walked by.  David's mom used to live in San Francisco and although it had been many years since she was last there, she was able to find it.  We were not allowed to take pictures, but there were three women tending  the temple.  The space was about the size of a living room or large master bedroom.  One woman kept it tidy, another women made paper hats(?), and another woman transferred wishes and prayers from a book onto pieces of paper that were attached to paper lanterns hung overhead.
