• Jul. 31, 2007 - A really nice day and closer to starting school

We had a really nice day today! The kids did most of their chores, we headed to the park for free lunch and to let the kids play in the water for about an hour. From there Arthur went to spend the night with a friend and I took the rest of the kids to go play at my sister's house. My 4 year old nephew had a great time playing with Solomon, not so much with Abagail! They are both quite bossy :) Lucas found all of the McQueen goods in their house (a nightlight in the bedroom, a rip cord McQueen, and a Ramone car). Katelyn had the most fun playing with a neighbors little girl. I finally got to see my 16 month old nephew walking, he's a cute little fella. The kids found all the snacks they could find and even wanted to hang out and watch a movie but nap time came on all too quickly. Lucas was asleep before we got home, as was Gentry.
I'm compiling my list to make sure we are ready to start homeschooling on my birthday, August 6th! Considering we are only finished painting the bedroom things on that front are moving, well, slowly. We hope to have the front room ready to prime by this weekend, it moves more slowly when Colin works till 10pm on side jobs, but that has to be done also. This is important as this will be the new play/school room. All of my homeschooling supplies are still in the garage in boxes. We were hoping to be able to put down the wood floors in there before we moved school things back in but there just won't be time for that, we can move all that over Christmas or Thanksgiving and take care of the floor. We are putting floating wood floors throughout, except the kitchen and laundry room.
I DID try to post those pics but for some reason they just would not post, I will try to try again tomorrow... lost of trying in that sentence.
We have the dentist, speech therapy, and bible study tomorrow, that's why I can only TRY :)

• Jul. 28, 2007 - Finally pictures of Mohawk and an update with more pics

I have finally taken the time to find the piece to put the pictures on the computer, have internet hooked up in a room I can use, and the time and energy to update my blog.
We are still in the midst of working on the house. The master bedroom has NO BROWN in it. It used to have brown wood paneling, brown trim, and brown doors. We have bid a joyous farewell to brown. Everything in there is now white, primer, and two coats of primer at that! We plan on painting the bedroom green with white trim, with the green going up tomorrow and white trim sometime next weekend.
The front room is free of all paneling, that was taken down last Saturday and is almost completely spackled, that's a lot of work. We hope to have that room in the painting process this week. I really wanted to have that room finished but there just wasn't enough time and energy.
Now for this pics.
There are some of an average day at our house (when we could use our front room) with the boys wrestling and Abagail playing with her baby doll. The pretty pink clouds seen from the highway on the way home from a trip two weeks ago. Abagail listening to America Rock on her Leapster. Of course a few shots of Mohawk. BTW, Mohawk is potty training! Yesterday he didn't use the pot at all but today he didn't have any accidents! For each day he has no accidents he earns a car from the Cars movie that he doesn't yet have. Tonight he picked Snot Rod.

I can't post any pics for some reason, but I wanted to show this blog on the site.

• Jul. 22, 2007 - The Story of Mohawk and Tatoo

Once upon a time there was a rather large family. The oldest child was moody and complained of life being "not fair". The second child just wanted to ride his bike "until the cows come home". The third child thought the second child was "bossy". The fourth child wants to jump on the trampoline in her princess dress. The fifth child has a mohawk. The sixth child has pen drawings on his head, hence his new nickname of tatoo. The two adults are both exhausted but dealing with our wild hoard alright.
I will post pictures of Mohawk and Tatoo later tonight if I can find the thing to put the pics on the computer.

• Jul. 10, 2007 - Just a pic

This is just a short update as I'm still cleaning the house in order to FINALLY start priming tomorrow.
I took this pic  of Gentry while Solomon was holding him with Lucas rubbing his head and just loved it but my moody camera messed the pic up. My camera made it almost sepia colored but a bit more red, I have no idea why my camera is doing this but I have turned the pic black and white and doctored it in my picture program. I do love this pic.

There is also a video of Lucas on the other site that is ever so cute.

Lucas on video

I took Gentry in for his 2 month check up and we weighed 12.5lbs and was 24 inches long. He's growing rapidly and getting pudgy as he should.
That's about all the updates I have for now, I will be getting a mini vacation this weekend. Going to see my buddy Angelica. Her daughter, Gracie, is having her 6th birthday party. Abagail, Gentry, and I will be going on Saturday partying, having dinner out, going to church Sunday to hear Angelica play the piano and then heading back home. Abagail and I are both very excited to get away and get to see some of our best friends.

• Jul. 5, 2007 - We are still around

Remember those lofty goals I had to do unit studies in July? Not happening.

Remember those lofty goals I had to start school by mid August? Not happening.

Why you ask?

We are moving. We have almost all of the house packed now. The kitchen, laundry room, and games need to be packed. That's it. Once we get those packed we start painting Saturday, a week late. According to our real estate agent neutral sells so all my beautiful colored rooms will be painted beige. Yuck. All of our ugly brown trim will be transformed to beautiful white, that I will not mind but getting brain trim white will prove to be loads of fun I am sure. Then once we are done with that we will be neutral carpet. I will be so sad to see our blue carpet go... NOT! We hope to have the house listed by the 14th, sold before the end of July and get outta here by mid August. That will put school starting MAYBE early September, puttting us back again for when we will finish but oh well!

We are currently living in the "city" a neighborhood that is a rather nice neighborhood, for the most part (see earlier post about our front door getting kicked in on a dare and note that a week ago someone tried to steal hubby's car, which is a piece of junk anyway). We will be moving (hopefully) to the country. Almost 9 acres into a 4 bed 2 bath trailor. Not your run-of-the-mill trailor, large enough for our family with plenty of room to build a house behind. We look forward to QUIET, no ambulances and police cars all around us making noise, not living down the street from a monthly tested tornado warning siren, and plenty of room to stretch out, not to mention no view of our house from the street!

Well, kids are doing well, Gentry's getting bigger and bigger, goes in next week for a check up. Rest of kids are busy making me nuts with boredom while I try to pack. Angus' flea prob is better with Frontline Plus and the chickens are still layig eggs.

• Jun. 13, 2007 - Update, pictures, and readying my school year

I have decided to start our school year early. We will start with Winter Promise July 2nd and add in the human body lapbook for science for the first 2 weeks and Missionaries the next 2 weeks. Then August 6th (my birthday) we will add in Apologia science, spanish, math, and Honor Your Father and Mother. I thought this would work better than doing no school at all and then throwing a whole new day at the kids. This will give us a month on our full schedule before our co op starts in September.
Now for pictures :)

We pulled a tree down on Saturday. As you can tell we are from the south... we tied the tree to the car and Colin used the chain saw to start the process but it chain saw got stuck (cheap chain saw) so he asked *me* to put the car in reverse and slowly see if the tree would come down. It did.
Colin cutting the tree

The kids on the tree after it came down

Lucas "Just call me Pig Pen"

These are lilies from my front yard that we planted last year, some have multiplied and others have not but they are pretty!

This was cute because Lucas just climbed right into the empty hamper to play the piano. A nice lady that Colin works with gave us this cute little piano that Lucas and Gentry will enjoy playing with since the others will be getting a full size keyboard.

Solomon has learned to ride a two wheeled bike. I don't know the exact tale but Colin came inside while I was making dinner and said "Solomon is riding a two wheeler" and then a terrible shriek from Abagail. She had fallen because she leaned sideways on her bike while riding over a speed bump and skinned her knee really well. As soon as Colin cleaned it and put a band-aid on it Abagail said "Can I still ride me bike?"

• Jun. 13, 2007 - I've been tagged!

My friend through a friend Beth has tagged me. "The rules are real easy, all you have to do is write 7 random facts or habits about yourself in your blog. Then choose and list 7 people and leave them a 'Tag' letting them know to come by, and read your blog and see why."

7 Random facts....

1. I'm the youngest of 3

2. We are aware of "what causes that"

3. We have a dog the size of a human

4. I'm a pack rat, yes I admit it

5. I have a weakness for candy corns

6. I read constantly

7. I talk to myself at times

Now to tag 7 people.....

• Jun. 8, 2007 - lots of pics

I had lost the attachment that I use to put pictures from my camera onto the computer but not that I have found it I have plenty of pictures to post.
I also want to add that i have gotten to order the Calculadders Master Pak 1 and Truthquest 1 American History. We will be using Calculadders over the summer for Arthur for multiplication and for Solomon for addition. I wanted Truthquest before the homeschool convention in August to make sure I get the main books that I would like to use with Truthquest.
Now for the pictures:

I will start with a picture I took just for Beth of Beth's Bountiful Blessings
You wanted a pic so badly, I thought you'd like this one :)

On Sunday during a walk Lucas was doing a very scientific experiment, which is harder cement or his head... the cement won.
Full face shot

Close up of lump

This is a very exciting picture for Colin and me because this is the very first jigsaw puzzle Katelyn has ever completed without any help at all!

These are pictures of Arthur's zoo
Parrots

The whole zoo

Penguin

Lion

Lucas at the park, I would have taken more of the others but I was holding Gentry and the sun was behind a cloud and then it came out and it was *really* bright and I was nervous having Gentry out in that sun.

More fun with peanut butter dough:

Arthur made a rattle snake

Solomon made "ing"

Abagail made an alien

and a volcano

Most people only post pics of their kids when they are happy and clean and such, well, not me!

 *angry* Lucas

Lucas' cars saying "cheese"

Colin and Gentry, he just loves to be outside (that's Gentry, guess Colin too but really Gentry)

Arthur

This is "Big Red" the Chicken

This is "Sour" the Chicken

BTW, we have a fun time with chicken names too. We have Big Red and Big Mama, Mama rules the roost but Big Red is bigger than her now. Two others are Goldie and Silver, then there are two whites Squeaky (she does sound like a squeak toy) and Grumpy, be around her for a few minutes and you'll know why that's her name. There are then 2 greyish ones, nothing to use from attitude per say but we did name them well, Sweet and Sour. Sour does indeed have a sour attitude and Sweet is sweet to those who don't chase her (Colin and I).

Last but not least Abagail loves to color and draw, much like Arthur. She will use paper, felt, foam sheets, and in this case even the bottom of a pizza box. The only problem with this was that she wanted me to keep this pizza box. I took some pics and the box went.
Yes, almost all of her drawing have at least 1 princess

• Jun. 8, 2007 - Movies posted, but not here

I gave up on figuring how to post a movie here and posted it to my Blogspot instead. This is my old blog page, one I barely got started using and then changed.
Anyway, the video of Lucas is there and I'm posting the other video in a few minutes.
The link is Our Family of 7
As you can see by the name, it's an old blog :) We are now Our Family of 8!

• Jun. 6, 2007 - Cute Story

Abagail and I took Gentry on his walk this evening. We had a nice walk, she was picking weed flowers and we were chatting (I also talked to 2 friends on the phone :).
On our way home I thought about letting Abagail play on the school playground so we took the side way in but the gate to the playground was locked. There is a small "bridge" over the ditch/drainage area and Abagail went running to the playground and stopped at this bridge.
Abagail starts screaming joyfully "Mommy, a fish, a fish, a fish! I think it's dead though, a dead fish! (mind you she was still joyful to have found a fish at all) Well, maybe it's sunbathing!"
This is why I stay home with my kids. A sunbathing "fish" because it turned out to be a rat... oh well, she also found a purse in the ditch, not one she kept, she just saw it.
She took her weed flowers home and used a new book I got for $1 at the used book sale to identify them. Her fav was an aster.
I have more updates and pics but I have to find the equipment to upload (or is it download) the pics onto the computer.

• Jun. 2, 2007 - Horizontal rain, booksale, and research time, prayer request

First, the horizontal rain: shall we tell the nice lady on Fox News that a tropical storm might not be *exactly* what we needed. We aren't dry anymore though! It rained from around 5am until 8pm today. Falling rain, sideways rain, and very cold rain too.
Today was also our local homeschool group's yearly booksale. Not a *great* day for a sale but true to homeschoolers we were still there! I got mostly $1 and free books (no surprise) but bought the Apologia Flying Creatures book for science and found Solomon the Complete Book of  Thomas the Tank Engine Stories. Abagail got some American Girl books and cookbooks, Arthur got some history books and a computer game, I got The Oregon Trail game, and even found Lucas a small book of The Wheels on the Bus. You would have thought I'd brought home CANDY with how excited the kids were!
Since it rained and rained and rained and rained and, well you get the point, I spent quite a lot of time online doing yet more research. I'm going to post a long list of our schedules for this coming year pretty soon but for now, you'll just have to keep checking back.
The prayer request is for us and for Gentry (Ginky as he's called around here). He goes kinda crazy around 8pm, right when the others go to bed and doesn't normally cool off till almost 11pm. We haven't figured out yet how to get around this hump but pray that we can either figure it out or it will just stop.

• Jun. 1, 2007 - Well, isn't this lovely!

Wow, here we were preparing for a bit of rain (Praise God) but instead the power went off. At 6:30 pm when Colin had just left  to head to the store to get our weekly frozen pizza dinners. I called and told him not to bother getting those unless he planned on eating them frozen :) So we headed out to one of our spots here that's cheap and decent food, just happens to be pizza. However, this made dinner around 8:30pm and we got home just before 11pm. Lets say that Gentry and Lucas are/were quite unpleasant and here it is 11:30pm and there's still no power. It's HOT in my house, silent too (except for Gentry's crying), and well, sleep isn't coming so easily.
News says that 7,000 houses lost power (that's not including businesses) and that at 11pm "only" 4,000 should still be without power, hoping to have all power restored by 1am, so guess sometime after 1am I'll get to go to sleep and not sweat to death.
Anywho, I'd like to know why no matter how hard we work we can't have one "normal" day?

• May. 29, 2007 - Memorial Day Weekend

It's been a while since I updated the blog and I'm starting to get complaints!
We had a nice long weekend here. Weather was great and we were both productive and had some relaxation time (if taking 6 kids to 2 pools in 1 day is relaxing).
Saturday was much more relaxing for me than for Colin. I slept and nursed Gentry most of the day getting up in early evening to help Colin and do some housework.
Sunday we went only to 1 church service (we normally have worship and Sunday school but our new class won't start for a few more weeks) and then came home, made lunch, washed the dog, cleaned the kitchen, painted trim from the boys room, and Colin put the wire on top of the chicken enclosure!
On Monday my Mother invited us out to her house to swim at the local pools. We ate lunch and swam at one with my sis, BIL, and her 2 boys and then went to the other pool where they have a water slide and it's a bit more kid friendly. We stayed for about 5 hours! Lucas was exhausted and Gentry nursed twice, sleeping in his car seat travel system the whole time! I did well covering everyone with sunscreen, by myself.... so I'm looking a bit copper now. I don't really "burn" so to speak, I get a bit pink and then I turn brown. I'm a shade darker than I was yesterday morning!
Things that happened at the pool:
Katelyn copied the rest of us dunking our head by throwing her legs out in front of her... then realizing she can't swim and finally got her feet back under her, cute because she was in no danger of drowning.
Arthur passed a swimming test so that he can go down the water slide, that's a new rule this year.
Solomon jumped into water over his head, letting me help him to wear he could touch.
Abagail learned that she can in fact swim underwater without drowning.
Lucas discovered the joy of a swimsuit with an inner tube attached, that he can "swim" without attaching himself to me like velcro!
Gentry... wait, I don't think he even knew we were AT the pool!
I survived the pool for the first time with 6 kids and Colin survived the pool, that always wears him out.

Anyway, these are the pics I gotten from my mom thus far (I got floats, toys, and all children, didn't think about the camera).

Lucas, chilling, I mean warming up after a long day of swimming

• May. 22, 2007 - A Great Timeline link

I like to peruse my Rainbow Resource catalog every now and then because I always find something "new". Tonight I came across this timeline resource. I'm new to timelines so this caught my eye. We are going to be studying classical music and American art this year also and they had some great resources. Check them out at Partenon Timelines
Something else that caught my eye is All Through the Ages. This is a book of books listed many different way to make finding your topic, timeline, location, etc very fast and easy. I think this would be a great supplement to Winter Promise histories because it gives more literature to get a great feel for the time you are studying. This is their website All Through the Ages

• May. 22, 2007 - Fleas and a pic

Here in the south we are having major issues with fleas again. I have seen plenty of commercials for a monthly flea treatment called Biospot so I went out today to get some. We have used Frontline from the vet but were searching for a cheaper option. After reading labels I found the exact same formulation but at less than 1/2 the price. It's called Zodiac Spot On. I will post in a few days to et you know how well it works.
I did realize that our whole family has pics on here, all but our pooch, Angus. He's our "lap dane" :)

Angus laying down, this is where he spends most of his time, he's 7 1/2 now, most danes live till around 10 years of age, so he's old.

This is Abagail and Angus, he didn't really want his pic taken, which is why he's standing that way, he just wanted to continue his nap!

• May. 17, 2007 - Sick day?

We thought Gentry might be sick this morning but it turns out he's fine, just a stuff nose from yuck still clearing out. However, we did weigh him and he weighed 9lbs 1 oz. This means since 6 days ago he's gained 4 oz, making that almost 1 oz a day in gain. Pretty good since he now weighs 5 oz more than when he was born only (almost) 2 weeks ago. The doc said he looked great. While we were there he was kind enough to spit/throw up all over his outfit, blanket, car seat, through the bottom of the car seat and onto the examining table. It was so quiet because Arthur and Solomon were not there but Gentry just HAD to stir things up!
BTW, I'll be posting more homeschooling curriculum and links that have been brought to my attention.

• May. 16, 2007 - Wednesday, the quiet night

Tonight Arthur and Solomon are with Grandmommy, Lucas fell asleep on the way home from the mall, Gentry will NOT cooperate with having his waking spell earlier in the evening, and now Abagail and Katelyn are in bed. So, I have nothing really to update except that we found the PERFECT hat for Abagail tonight.

Princess Pink

Ah, pray for her future husband, please

Then I had to put some pics of Gentry up. I didn't have any yet of Colin holding Gentry because he was most often the photographer.

Colin and Gentry, who did not want his pic taken. He put his hands up when the red light for the flash blinked.

"No pictures please!"

Finally accepting of the pictures being taken.

These are my only updates. All is going pretty well over here. We have been greatly blessed with meals, Grandmommy taking 4 of the kids in the past week (at 2 separate times), and Gentry nursing well.

• May. 11, 2007 - New links added

While Gentry slept I ate brunch and added our homeschooling links.
From our core of Winter Promise American Story 1 to music and art studies all the links are now listed. If there are places you have not heard of or browsed before make sure you check out the whole website. Places like Timberdoodle and Doorposts have lots of great products.
Enjoy browsing and if you have other fav places post back to me, I'm always interested in learning more!!!

• May. 10, 2007 - The 5th Day

I can't believe Gentry is almost 1 week old. Colin went back to work yesterday and I overdid it. Paid for it by hurting all night last night. He stayed home today and will be home tomorrow. Abagail and Lucas spent last night and most of today with my mom. They are both exhausted today. Unfortunately we realized fairly quickly that Lucas had a fever. Once taken it was 102.5 and still slowly moving up. Poor Lucas gets sick all the time with one thing or another. I'm hoping the fever will just go away but if not Colin will have to take him to the Dr tomorrow because I'm not taking a newborn! Gentry and I have an appointment with the midwife tomorrow. Thats pretty much all the news from here. This weekend I'm going to post some other homeschooling finds and thoughts.
